Freedom Treaty

The Freedom Treaty is a set of bylaws that were put in place within the area of the Bridging Lands called the Free Cities after the defeat and retreat of the occupying Blanchian forces. One particularity of the Freedom Treaty is that it defines 'Citilian citizen [as] a person born within the Free Cities territories, free and equal to their neighbours, irrespective of race, religion or culture'.

Purpose

The Freedom Treaty was written to formally acknowledge the return to the Free Cities to their own rule rather than that of the Blanchard Dynasty or any other power. It was prompted by the need to offer reassurance to the people living along the Dragon Range and the Serene Sea that the alliance would protect them and their rights to live peacefully, free from the Dragon Empire.

Historical Details

History

In 1700, envoys from Zodallos, the High Reaches tribes, the Dwarven Kingdoms of Nurndum and Domtodihr, and Citilian rebels groups met within Holafiel to create an alliance between these forces, with the express goal to push back the Blanchian forces to their own borders. Battle plans were drawn and executed from there. War was waged over the next 30 years and most of the lands where Citilian is the prevalent culture were taken back from the Blanchard Dynasty.

Public Reaction

The signing of the treaty was widely announced through Citilian lands and was celebrated pretty much throughout. In some cities, the citizen organised spontaneous street parties during which the Zodos and Holafiel flags were flown from atop official buildings while the Blanchian flags were trampled on and burnt.
