Technological, Magical and societal advancements

The Lost Times

During the Lost times, humanity lived on Kar-Kut and had spread to several other worlds by using Realm-gates.

Civic:

Kar-Kut was a meritocratic democracy, with firm ethics and a reliable legal system. Public education, Sociallized healthcare and more. The entire world was unified under one system of governance.

Technology & Magic:

Highly developed, with advanced medicine and healthcare achieved through Alchemy. In terms of magic, order magic (sorcery) was dominant. Arcane constructs, Gateways, aether siphons, all very impressive.

Religion:

Gods and spirits are less important. They are seen as foreign influences that are not needed and not to be trusted. The gods have little influence.

When Kar-Kut was destroyed during the War of Burning Skies humanity lost all of its manufacturing, most of its arcane expertise and most of their population. They were forced to flee to other worlds like Haven.

The Age of Blood

During the age of blood, humanity was initially a bunch of highly developed refugees arriving on Haven, forced to survive by banging rocks together to make things work, but hoping to rebuild.
Their ambitions were quickly crushed by the War of Tyrants, where humanity was forced again and again to flee and rebuild, their brightest minds were killed by the Jotnar and the wildlife of Haven, and dire circumstances just didnt allow for the older generation to pass on their wisdom. Much of their knowledge and expertise was lost.

Civic:

Society fell apart into self-contained communities, city-states and tribal communities capable of surviving independent from the rest of humanity. Concepts such as justice or ethics were luxuries that most couldn't afford, might made right. Later on small countries formed with feudal systems as warlords expanded their realms across larger territories.

Technology & Magic:

Most knowledge of technology, magic and the sciences were destroyed during the war of tyrants. By the end, poverty reigned.

Religion:

In ascendance, the divines and the spirits offered help that humanity desperately needed.

The war of tyrants ended with both the Jotnar and humanity devastated, but with humanity broadly ruling the planet.

The Age of Grace

The Age of grace was the time where humanity conquered Haven fully. They multiplied greatly and spread all over Haven, as both they and the world of Haven itself recovered from the war of Tyrants.

Civic:

Humanity was a collection of small states, kingdoms and disconnected communities in largely feudal systems, where certain families of the warlords and conquerors that forged those realms are held above the common folk. Priests also hold very large sway. Book-burnings become a consequence of the beginning influence of dark powers and black magic. This is the age of petty kings and small nations where ignorance rules.

Technology & Magic:

In the beginning of the age of grace, technology is entirely primitive. However as the age progresses, technology advances greatly. Notable inventions include things like Crossbows and plate armour. The general level of wealth was also increased, with farms yielding more produce due to the assistance of priests and druids.
Magic is fairly small-scale, with hedge wizards keeping sorcery alive as they pass their teachign down to their students and priests of various gods slowly establish themselves as political and societal powers.
This longstanding tradition of minor mages and priests ends with the Necromancer Crisis, which shows everybody the major impact even a small handful of powerful mages can have on society. Both sorcerers and priest gain further influence in society as institutions of research are established, but the amount of oversight and legislation to control also increases drastically.
Magic weapons remain very rare, and made as (un)holy relics or made from dragon bones.

Religion:

Dominant, priests were so important due to their ability to dispense healing magic that they had tremendous influence. The priests of different churches also regularly went to war in these times. This is the age of holy wars, book burnings and witch hunts, more than any other with institutions like The Raven Knights being founded.

With the increases in population and the spread of humanity across Haven, various malicious influences started to worm their way into the world as well, leading to a much wider spread of Demonic cults and things like Wildlings appearing.
The relatively peacable times of the age of grace was akin to an incubator for many evils that would plague humanity during Old sun.

Old Sun

During Old Sun humanity was hit by crisis after crisis. The Rampage of the Nightmare King, vast increases in populations of monsters and Wildilings, demonic incursions and more.
Contemporary writers of the time thought that Old Sun was going to be the end of Humanity on Haven, and the casualties were great indeed.

Civic:

Society was made much more paranoid of demonic cults and other societal illnesses. However humanity developed culturally, developing art, more robust legal systems and reducing the power of noble houses. This is the age of great kingdoms vying for dominance. Great nations like Pucraele and Ravil have major societal upheavals during this time due to civil wars and wars of unification.

Technology & Magic:

The level of technology and general wealth increased. A big game changer were the development of arcane weapons and healing potions, as wells as better methods of irrigation and innovations in the trades, such as the printing press. Sorcery establishes itself as a necessary part of life and governance in most of the world, if it was not already so. Sorcery advances to the level of harnessing lightning and feats of teleportation.

Religion:

The various minor gods of haven united their structures and formed The Church of Haven. Though their power individually lessened somewhat, their unified front makes the priests of Haven stronger than ever.

Old sun greatly influenced the cultures of every society on Haven. While it lead to great cultural advancements in Haven, particularly making the various societies much more secure and paranoid, it came at terrible costs.

New Dawn

New dawn is the current and future age. It is heavily Work-in-progress.
