Pucraele

Political Structure: Composite Monarchy
Language: Nordic

The Land of Pucraele is split into multiple 'holds'. Each hold is governed by a noble family that draw their heritage from the old Northern clans.
The head of these noble families choose from amongst themselves a 'High-King' who then acts as the nation's leader in times of war and for foreign affairs in general, whilst still only ruling his own hold outside of these responsibilities.

Pucraele is a harsh land, the soil not lending itself to agriculture. As such, the population numbers in Pucraele are low but their people are hardy, used to times of strife, hunger and violence.

Religion

By far the most popular deity in Pucraele is Toral. He is a warrior-god that himself stems from Pucraele and as such has no issues advertising himself to the local peoples. He also knows exactly what the clans and warriors of Pucraele want: successful hunting, glory in battle and endurance. He needs no churches, his temple is the feast hall and the battlefield.
It is no surprise he dominates Pucraele's religious practices; he dominates from historical inertia alone.
Other deities are present in Pucraele, but their clerics are often bullied into subservience by the dominant church of Toral.

Magic

Magic In Pucraele is less regulated and organized than in Gallica. There are no large organized teaching- or research institutions, only individual sorcerers doing their own research and educating their own apprentices.
The most common form of sorcerers in Pucraele are court mages in the service of powerful warlords and clan-heads.
Dark Magic is also less regulated in Pucraele, though these folk have much less success in this cold land due to the simple absence of people they can prey on.

History

The People of Pucraele migrated so far north to escape the War of Tyrants long ago. They had to rely on each-other and develop new strategies to survive, developing their own culture and customs along the way.

For a long time after that, the lands of pucraele was ruled by disparate family units and clans. A 'Clan' was essentially an extended family headed under a central authority such as a clan head or a council. The pucraele clans held territory and enforced their own laws on their lands. The clans constantly competed for power, land and influence.
The Clans had long-running blood feuds with one another but every once in a while there were too many mouths to feed and too little food and the clans were forced to band together. In these times the northerners were forced to send their men on a raiding campaign to Gallica or Ravil.

Only in response to the development of Gallica and Ravil into military powers capable of resisting the raids of pucraele did several of the larger clans unify to form the modern state of Pucraele.
Whilst the clans have over since then turned into noble families that govern over their 'holds' and are now less important than ever before, their influence still holds strong and family bonds are valued above all else in pucraele.
