Boil Runner

Boil Runners are sleek, fan-powered skiffs used by Greefolk crews to chase down Greebeasts across the volatile surface of The Boil. These vessels are lightweight but durable, built to skim the oily, turbulent waters with speed and agility. Their large rear-mounted fans—powered by volatile gree engines—generate enough thrust to attempt to outrun Boil Overs and maneuver through unpredictable currents. The hulls of Boil Runners are reinforced with greebeast bone, ensuring they can withstand both the harsh environment and the thrashing of massive prey.

Each Dirigible dispatched for a hunt carries one to three Boil Runners, deployed once a Greebeast is spotted from the air. Crews consist of three to seven sailors, led by a Boat Lead—an experienced Able Sailor chosen for their leadership and courage. Selection of Runners is a democratic process among the crew, emphasizing trust and camaraderie, as the work is dangerous yet highly profitable. The Boat Lead and their team earn an increased share of the hunt’s profits, but they face the gravest risks when engaging a Greebeast up close.
