Anchor
An Anchor is the elected representative and "ward boss" of one of the Holds of Awarth, serving on the Council of Anchors, the city-state’s ruling body. Anchors are tasked with governing their Holds, maintaining order, and representing their constituents in city-wide policy decisions. Though the title evokes stability, Anchors must constantly balance factional loyalties, political intrigue, and the demands of their constituents. Their power depends heavily on the factions that helped secure their election, and failure to satisfy these backers often leads to swift downfall.
The Council is presided over by the Anchor Prime, often referred to as The Chair. This position is filled through a secret ballot among the nine Anchors, with the winner serving as the council’s chief spokesperson and agenda-setter. The Anchor Prime controls when and how the Council convenes, what matters are addressed, and which factions gain favor or face scrutiny. While the Anchor Prime is meant to act as a neutral figure ensuring stability, the role is often seen as the apex of Awarth’s political ladder—a seat of immense influence.
The Anchor Prime wields great sway, but also faces constant scrutiny. Rivals vie for the position through whisper campaigns, manipulations of faction loyalties, and carefully orchestrated coups, knowing that whoever holds The Chair shapes Awarth’s fate.
