Vampires

“The world changes, we do not, therein lies the irony that kills us.” ― Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire

Vampires are unholy creatures of the night that feed on blood and are a type of demon. These dark creatures are unnaturally beautiful and smell of whatever their prey finds most appealing in order to more easily feed off them. Vampires are highly dangerous and they can not be faced one on one if you want to live to see another day.

Vampire Types

There are two major types of vampire, Pureblood and Turned, with each having their own subtypes.

Pureblood Vampires

Pureblood vampires are those who were born as vampires, therefore making them the strongest vampire type. Pureblood vampires can bleed unlike turned vampires and can go for months without feeding.
Noble Vampires
These pureblood vampires are not just born vampires, but they also come from ancient and noble vampire bloodlines. They are often the leaders and aristocracy of vampire society. Noble vampires possess extraordinary powers, such as mind control and elemental manipulation. They may even have the ability to turn themselves invisible or control shadows.
Nightstalkers
Nightstalkers are pureblood vampires known for their exceptional hunting abilities. They can move silently and invisibly in the dark, making them expert nocturnal predators. Their predatory instincts are so keen that they can track prey for miles, and they often have retractable fangs or claws for a more efficient kill.
Sorcerous
These pureblood vampires are gifted with potent magical abilities. They can harness dark magic, summon mystical creatures, or cast powerful spells. Sorcerous vampires are often revered as scholars and mystics within the vampire society and may hold the secrets to ancient and forbidden knowledge.

Turned Vampires

Vampires who have been turned are far weaker than pureblood vampires and can’t turn anyone into a vampire themselves. When they are turned they are servants of the one who turned them for about 10 years. Afterwards they are free to live however they please. Like pureblood vampires they are unnaturally beautiful and often smell of whatever their prey finds most appealing in order to more easily feed off them. Although they are not as dangerous as a pureblood vampire meaning that hunting them is not as much of a suicide mission.   They are the ones that Vampire Hunters like the Hellsings tended to kill. Meaning they often have to hide from them. Usually by blending into human society and avoiding pureblood vampires at all cost. Turned vampires have a very different way of life then most pureblood vampires and most turned vampires resent pureblood vampires for turning them. Although there are turned vampires who remain loyal to the one that turned them most leave them as soon as the 10 years are up.   The only way for a turned vampire to grow stranger and gain more abilities is to have a pureblood vampire WILLINGLY give up their blood for them to drink, but most turned vampires can’t even stand to be around a pureblood vampire long enough to gain their trust in order for this to happen.   Turned vampires can’t go without feeding for more than a month at most. Turned vampire’s powers often have to do with what they were good at or what made them special as a human. Turned vampires are the ones humans are most familiar with.
Shadowmancers
Turned vampires with a background in stealth or espionage often become Shadowmancers. They have the unique ability to manipulate shadows, using them for concealment, transportation, or even as weapons. Shadowmancers are skilled at infiltrating human society and gathering valuable information.
Bloodshapers
These turned vampires possess the rare ability to manipulate the blood of their victims. They can control the flow of blood in a person's body, causing injury or healing wounds. Bloodshapers are often sought after for their healing abilities within vampire communities, and their power makes them formidable in combat.
Feral Vampires
Feral vampires are turned from individuals with a strong connection to nature or animals. As vampires, they retain an uncanny bond with the animal kingdom. They can communicate with and command animals, transform into a predatory animal, or even summon creatures to aid them in battle. Feral vampires often live on the fringes of vampire society, preferring the company of animals to other vampires.
Illusionists
These turned vampires have honed their ability to manipulate perception and create powerful illusions. They can make themselves and their surroundings appear different, making them masters of deception and subterfuge. Illusionists are skilled at creating traps, distractions, and diversions to confuse their enemies.

Vampire Family Dynamics

Nests

Vampire Nests are an important part of Vampire culture. A vampire nest is a place where Vampires can learn and grow. It is a safe haven for many and an escape for others. A Vampire nest is sort of like a vampire’s family. There are three primary roles in a Vampire Nest: Provider, Caretaker, and Protector. More than one vampire can belong to each role and when that happens the leader of each group is known as a igétis. The leader of the nest is called the Alpha. This is the place where Newly turned Vampires learn about their abilities and what they are. Vampires are fiercely protective of Newborn Vampires and because of that even if they wanted to hurt the Newborn Vampire before they turned they physically would not be able to.

Clans

Vampire clans are often formed around a shared bloodline or lineage. Members of a clan can trace their vampiric ancestry back to a common progenitor, who may have been one of the first vampires or a particularly powerful or influential figure in vampire history. Each clan may exhibit unique vampiric traits, abilities, or weaknesses that set them apart from other clans. These distinct characteristics can be inherited and passed down through generations.   Clans often have their own symbols, crests, or heraldic emblems that represent their identity and heritage. These symbols can be found on clan members' clothing, accessories, or even as tattoos. Clans typically have a leadership structure that includes a clan leader or elder, often referred to as the Patriarch or Matriarch. The leader holds authority over the clan's decisions, rituals, and traditions.   Some clans may claim specific territories or domains as their own, where they have established hidden communities or strongholds. These domains are protected by the clan's members and may serve as a base of operations. Each clan may have its own rituals, traditions, and ceremonies that are unique to their culture. These rituals can include blood ceremonies, initiation rites, and special celebrations.   Vampire clans may form alliances with other clans for mutual protection or common goals. However, they can also have long standing feuds and rivalries, often rooted in ancient disputes or conflicts. Some clans specialize in infiltration and espionage, using their vampiric abilities to gather information and manipulate events in the human world. These clans may be known for their cunning and secrecy. Larger clans may have internal councils or councils composed of representatives from multiple branches or factions within the clan. These councils can help make collective decisions and maintain order.   Vampire clans often have a rich and storied history, with legends and tales passed down through the generations. These stories can serve as a source of identity and inspiration for clan members. Interactions between vampire clans can be complex, with rivalries, alliances, and shifting power dynamics. Some clans may be sworn enemies, while others forge alliances for mutual benefit. When disputes arise within a clan, there may be established mechanisms for conflict resolution, such as duels, trials, or negotiations. The resolution process can vary from clan to clan.

Nest and Clans

Clans and Nests are both types of vampire families however a nest is smaller and more intimate than a clan. Within a single clan, there may be several nests, each with its own unique characteristics, roles, and members. Nests within a clan typically operate with a degree of autonomy. While they share a common clan identity, allegiance, and larger leadership like a clan leader or elder, often referred to as the Patriarch or Matriarch. Each nest may have its own leadership, traditions, and rules that suit its specific needs and preferences.   Different nests within a clan can specialize in various aspects of vampire life. For example, one nest might focus on education and training for newborn vampires, while another specializes in espionage or hunting. Nests within the same clan can engage in friendly rivalries, competitions, or collaborations. These interactions contribute to the overall strength and cohesion of the clan. Nests may have designated feeding territories or hunting grounds, which they maintain and protect. These territories can be a source of pride and competition among nests.   Nests within a clan often share resources, such as information, knowledge, and even members when necessary. This collaborative approach helps the clan as a whole thrive. While individual nests may have their own identities and loyalties, there is a strong overarching loyalty to the clan as a whole. Clans prioritize the well-being and reputation of the entire bloodline. Conflicts or disagreements between nests within the same clan can arise. These disputes may be resolved through negotiation, arbitration, or even competitions to determine the outcome.

Mates

Vampire Mates are very strong romantic bonds that are enhanced through a special ritual. It is the vampire equivalent to marriage. The bond is very hard to break once formed and doing so has major consequences so Vampires take picking a mate very, very seriously. A vampire and a creature of a different species can in fact be mates. Vampire mates can read each other's thoughts, feel each other's emotion and even see what the other sees if given permission. After the bond is formed a tattoo will appear on the pair’s skin, it is different for each pair, and when a vampire’s mate dies their mark will fade to a dull gray. This event can be emotionally devastating for the surviving mate.   Vampires, for the most part, are pansexual and do not adhere to traditional concepts of monogamy. They are open to romantic and sexual connections with individuals of various genders and species. As a result, vampire mates may have a broader perspective on relationships. While vampire mates share a strong romantic and emotional bond, they may not place the same emphasis on sexual exclusivity as other species do. Their commitment to each other is rooted in a deep emotional connection and the unique bond they share.   Vampire mates value personal freedom and self-expression. They respect each other's autonomy and may not feel threatened by their partner's interactions with others. They have clear boundaries and consent agreements regarding romantic and sexual interactions with others, ensuring that both partners are comfortable and informed. While vampire mates may be more accepting of their partners' interactions with others, they are not immune to jealousy.

Lairs

Vampire lairs, also known as covens, are secretive and often luxurious locations where vampires gather to live, socialize, and conduct their affairs. These lairs are carefully chosen and designed to provide safety, security, and comfort for vampires.   Vampire lairs are typically located in concealed or remote areas, far from human settlements and prying eyes. Common locations include abandoned mansions, isolated castles, underground catacombs, or hidden caves. These locations provide both privacy and easy access to hunting grounds. The architecture of vampire lairs is often grand and opulent, reflecting the vampires' timeless existence and appreciation for aesthetics. Many lairs feature intricate Gothic, Victorian, or even Baroque designs. Elaborate decorations, antique furnishings, and artwork from different eras adorn the interior.   Vampire lairs are fortified to ensure the safety of their inhabitants. This may include reinforced doors, concealed entrances, and traps to deter intruders. Some lairs may have elaborate security systems, such as hidden cameras or magical wards, to detect and repel threats. Inside a vampire lair, you'll find lavish living spaces designed for both comfort and indulgence. Luxurious materials like silk, velvet, and richly stained wood are common. Grand chandeliers, antique furniture, and ornate decor add to the opulence. Common areas may include grand ballrooms, libraries filled with rare tomes, and sumptuous lounges.   Vampire lairs feature feeding chambers where vampires bring their prey. These chambers are designed for both practicality and sensuality. Comfortable furnishings and dim lighting set the mood, while concealed restraints and strategically placed mirrors allow for the efficient feeding process. Vampires require sleep during the day, so sleeping quarters are essential. Coffins, sarcophagi, or ornate canopy beds provide a comfortable resting place. Blackout curtains or blinds ensure that no sunlight penetrates the room.   Vampires gather in designated meeting areas to discuss clan or nest matters, socialize, and plan their activities. These spaces may include meeting rooms with long tables and high-backed chairs or cozy sitting areas with plush sofas. To maintain secrecy and evade potential threats, vampire lairs often have hidden passages and secret chambers. These passages may connect different parts of the lair, allowing vampires to move discreetly and quickly.   Each vampire within the lair typically has their own personal quarters, which they customize to their liking. These rooms serve as private retreats where vampires can relax, feed, and store personal belongings. Many vampire lairs house collections of ancient artifacts, relics, and valuable items acquired over the centuries. These treasures often hold sentimental value and reflect the vampire's long history. Some vampire lairs have crypts or vaults where they store important items, ancestral remains, or secret knowledge. These areas are heavily guarded and well-protected.

Human “Pets”

Some vampires may choose to keep humans as captives for various reasons, such as companionship, entertainment, or feeding. These humans are affectionately known as pets within vampire society and are fairly common and normal. A vampire clan can have up to 10 or 20 pet humans each owned by an individual vampire. The way in which vampires acquire human pets can vary. Some vampires ask for constant while others may resort to kidnapping or coercion. However this isn’t as common, not because of a sense of morality but because it’s less work to assimilate humans into their role if they are constanting to it.   Vampires provide their humans with food, shelter and protection when needed; some will even get them gifts as rewards for good behavior. Human pets have their own rooms within vampire lairs and have some say in clan activities and can come and go as they please, vampires have ways to make sure their humans return to them but generally that’s the case . Vampires do not keep their humans indefinitely often and will release them after a period of time.   Human pets are expected to obey their vampire master without question. This includes following orders and commands promptly. Human pets must willingly provide blood to their vampire masters when requested. This may be a key role they play in the vampire's life. Human pets are expected to be loyal to their vampire masters, not forming bonds with other vampires or humans that could jeopardize their relationship. Human pets must maintain secrecy about their relationship with the vampire, not revealing it to humans or other vampires who may pose a threat. Human pets should conduct themselves in a manner that pleases their vampire master. This may involve dressing a certain way or engaging in specific behaviors to satisfy the vampire's desires.   Human pets often provide companionship and entertainment for vampires who may be lonely or bored with immortality. One of the primary roles of human pets is to serve as a readily available source of blood for their vampire masters. They may need to willingly offer their blood during feeding sessions. Some vampires may seek emotional support or solace from their human pets, and the human's role may extend to providing comfort and understanding. Human pets can serve as sources of entertainment, engaging in activities that amuse or interest the vampire. This may include dancing, storytelling, or even engaging in intellectual conversations. In vampire cultures, having a human pet may be seen as a status symbol, and the human serves as an accessory to the vampire's identity and prestige. Human pets may participate in feeding rituals with their vampire masters, making the feeding process a sensual or pleasurable experience.   Within a clan or nest there is hierarchy among human pets based on factors like age, length of service, or the favor of their vampire masters. Older or more experienced human pets may hold some influence over newer arrivals and act as mentors or guides. While the relationship between vampires and their human pets is often based on dominance and submission, some vampires may genuinely form emotional bonds with their pets over time. These bonds can lead to more nuanced and caring interactions, blurring the lines between master and companion. In rare cases a human pet may gain power or influence within the vampire hierarchy and become a vampire themselves.   It's important to note that the specific rules, roles, and dynamics can vary widely within vampire society, and not all vampires may engage in the practice of keeping human pets. The treatment of human pets can range from relatively humane to highly exploitative, depending on the individual vampire's preferences and moral compass.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Vampires have the same anatomy as humans, the only difference is their teeth. Within their upper and lower gums, they have retractable fangs. These fangs are often elongated, sharp, and capable of piercing the flesh of their prey with ease. When not in use, the fangs can be retracted to appear more human-like, allowing vampires to blend into human society without arousing suspicion. One of the most significant characteristics of vampires is their venomous bite.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vampires genetics work the same way humans do and can reproduce two ways: One through intercourse and the other is by turning others into Vampires, using vampire venom.

Growth Rate & Stages

Pureblood Vampires experience a notably accelerated growth rate compared to humans during their early years. This rapid growth phase lasts until they reach the age of 20. This period of accelerated growth highlights the divergence between humans and vampires and underscores the transformative nature of vampirism. Pureblood Vampire children typically develop their fangs at around five years old. This stage marks a significant physical transformation and is often a moment of recognition within vampire society. Fangs are not only a symbol of their species but also a practical tool for feeding.   At approximately seven years old, Pureblood Vampire children become venomous. This development is a crucial aspect of their predatory abilities. The venom they produce is used to turn others into vampires, making this stage pivotal in their role within vampire society. Vampire children are known to have a higher blood lust than their adult counterparts. Learning to control this intense desire for blood becomes a significant aspect of their upbringing. They must be taught how to manage their blood lust to avoid causing harm to themselves or others. This stage represents a critical phase in their moral and ethical development.   Expecting vampire parents must take special precautions during childbirth. Vampire children are known to have an uncontrollable urge to attack the first human they see after birth. This necessitates giving birth at home or in remote vampire hospitals to ensure the safety of both the child and potential victims.

Ecology and Habitats

Vampires are versatile in their habitat choices and can be found in a variety of settings, from urban metropolises to remote rural areas. Urban environments offer a steady supply of human prey, while rural areas provide seclusion and opportunities for hunting magical creatures. Vampires often establish lairs, which serve as their primary dwellings and sanctuaries. These locations are carefully chosen for secrecy, security, and proximity to prey. Lairs can range from abandoned buildings in cities to concealed caves in the wilderness. For the safety of both vampire children and potential victims, remote vampire hospitals exist around the world. Expectant vampire parents use these hospitals to give birth to their children, knowing that vampire offspring may pose a threat to humans immediately after birth.   Vampires occupy a unique position in the predator-prey dynamic. They are apex predators, primarily preying on humans and occasionally other creatures. Their feeding habits have an impact on human populations, leading to legends and myths about vampire attacks. Vampires possess various adaptations for hunting, including enhanced senses, the ability to induce a trance-like state in their prey, and venomous bites. These adaptations make them highly efficient predators within their ecosystems.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Vampires are a subspecies of Demons. Demons by nature are demonic meaning they can not gain nutrition the same way humans can. They instead sustain themselves by consuming either souls or blood. Vampires can only consume blood and get weaker and weaker the longer they go with feeding. Vampires need to drink about 4 liters of blood daily in order to sustain themselves and a Vampire that hasn’t fed for 4-5 months is as good as dead. While Vampires can feed on animals, and often do if left no other option, they can not sustain themselves on just that alone and because of that it is considered a form of torture to force a vampire to feed only on animal blood. Such vampires are more feral and dangerous than one who consumes human blood even though they are often far weaker. Blood of magical creatures can give any vampire who drinks it temporary magical abilities associated with that creature.   Vampires have a preference for human blood, not just for its nutritional value but also for its taste. The blood of humans offers a wide range of flavors and qualities, making each feeding experience unique. Vampires develop a discerning palate when it comes to blood. They can distinguish between different individuals' blood and some vampires even develop preferences for certain individuals' blood over others.   Experienced vampires have learned to control their feeding to avoid excessive harm to their victims. They carefully regulate the amount of blood they extract to ensure their prey survives the encounter, making it possible for them to feed from the same source multiple times. Vampires often maintain secret caches or blood reservoirs where they store excess blood for emergencies or periods when fresh blood is not readily available. These reservoirs can be hidden in various locations, such as underground chambers or concealed within their lairs.   Some vampire societies have elaborate feeding rituals. These rituals can include the sharing of blood among vampires as a sign of unity and loyalty. They also have ceremonies to celebrate significant events, such as turning a new vampire or marking the passage of time. In certain vampire communities, there may be blood tithes or taxes imposed on the populace. Vampires may require a portion of blood from humans or other creatures as a form of tribute or tribute.

Biological Cycle

Vampires, when deprived of blood for an extended period, enter a death-like sleep state akin to hibernation. This state allows them to conserve energy when their primary source of sustenance, blood, is scarce or unavailable. During this hibernation-like sleep, their bodily functions slow down significantly, minimizing energy expenditure. While in this dormant state, vampires become exceptionally vulnerable to attacks. They are essentially defenseless, and it is challenging for them to sense or respond to potential threats. Most vampires make it a priority to find safe and hidden locations to enter this sleep mode to avoid danger.   Vampires are inherently creatures of the night and are better adapted to nocturnal environments. Seasonal changes in daylight duration can impact their daily activities. In winter, with longer nights, they may become more active, whereas during the summer, with shorter nights, they might need to be more cautious in their movements. Seasonal changes can influence the availability of prey. For example, during the winter months when humans are more likely to stay indoors, vampires may need to adapt their hunting patterns or source of sustenance to magical creatures or other supernatural beings.   Vampires may choose their habitats strategically to optimize their existence during different seasons. For instance, they might establish winter lairs in regions with prolonged darkness or underground shelters to avoid exposure to the sun during the summer months. Seasonal changes can also affect the availability of blood. Vampires need to plan their feeding schedules accordingly, ensuring they have a stable supply to last through challenging seasons when hunting becomes more challenging.

Behaviour

Vampires possess a strong survival instinct driven by their need for blood. This instinct influences their decisions and actions, often prioritizing their own sustenance and well-being. Vampires are apex predators in their ecosystem, and their predatory instincts are deeply ingrained. They often approach life with a hunter's mindset, strategizing their actions to secure prey or protect their territory.   The intense desire for blood, especially among vampire children, can be overwhelming. Controlling this blood lust requires discipline and self-control, and failure to do so can lead to dangerous and violent behavior. Vampires, particularly Purebloods, accumulate centuries of experience. This longevity can lead to a sense of detachment from mortal concerns and a more pragmatic, patient outlook on life. Vampires grapple with moral complexities related to their need for blood and their interactions with humans. Some struggle with guilt or remorse, while others embrace their predatory nature.   Vampires are primarily nocturnal, and their behavior reflects that. They are most active during the night, conducting their feeding, socializing within vampire communities, and pursuing their goals under the cover of darkness. Maintaining secrecy is paramount to vampires. They go to great lengths to conceal their true nature and activities from humans, often adopting aliases, concealing their identity, and operating in the shadows.   Vampires have established feeding rituals or customs within their communities. These rituals can involve sharing blood among vampires, celebrating significant events, or marking important milestones. Vampires have complex hierarchies and social structures even having their own monarch. Purebloods hold most positions of power and loyalty to one's sire or creator is a central aspect of their behavior that almost every turned vampire hates.   Vampires interact with humans in various ways. Some seek to integrate into human society, maintaining a façade of normalcy, some adopt a more predatory approach, viewing humans solely as a source of sustenance, and others see humans as pets and free entertainment.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Vampires blood is a valuable resource, and vampires can be exploited for their ability to produce or procure it. There are underground markets and organizations involved in trading vampire blood, either for consumption by other supernatural beings or for its potential magical properties. Some individuals or factions may seek to exploit vampires by enslaving them, forcing them to use their abilities for various purposes, such as personal protection, labor, or even criminal activities.   Vampires, especially those with unique abilities or extensive knowledge are highly sought after as sources of magical services. They are often, if caught, exploited for their skills in divination, spellcasting, or other supernatural abilities. The venom and essence of vampires, which are essential for their transformation and abilities, could be used in rituals, potions, or spells. This creates a demand for vampire byproducts and leads to conflicts between those who seek to harness these resources and vampires protecting their essence.   In darker corners of the world clandestine operations where vampires are bred and kept in captivity solely for the purpose of providing blood to other supernatural creatures or wealthy elites. Some factions might engage in selective breeding of vampires, attempting to create more powerful or specialized subtypes of the species. This has led to the emergence of unique vampire lineages with specific abilities or traits.

Facial characteristics

Vampires typically have sharp and angular facial features, which can include pronounced cheekbones, chiseled jawlines, and pointed chin shapes. This angularity adds to their overall predatory and alluring appearance. Vampires exhibit a range of eye shapes, with the most common ones being deep-set, protruding, hooded, and down-turned. These eye shapes can enhance their expressions and add depth to their characters.   While most vampires have both top and bottom fangs, there is a wide range of fang variations among them. Some may have only one pair of fangs, while others may not have any fangs at all. These variations can be associated with their bloodline, age, or individual genetics. Similar to demons, vampires often have slit pupils, which can give them a feral and predatory look. This feature enhances their ability to adapt to different lighting conditions and maintain their sharp senses. In addition to their distinctive eye colors vampires can also have lip colors. Some may have lips that appear blood-red, enhancing their vampiric allure.

Average Intelligence

Vampires are not only intelligent but also highly strategic and manipulative. Their ability to devise and execute complex plans makes them formidable adversaries and skilled diplomats within their own society. Their cunning nature allows them to manipulate the thoughts and actions of others, even those with brilliant minds. This ability can be used for self-preservation, gaining allies, or achieving their objectives.   Vampires' longevity and immortality grant them the opportunity for lifelong learning and accumulation of knowledge. Many vampires amass a deep understanding of various fields, including science, mathematics, and the inner workings of the world. This knowledge can be leveraged for various purposes, such as infiltrating human society as scientists or doctors to gather information discreetly.   Vampires' practical and realistic outlook on life is a result of their centuries of experience. They view the world through a lens shaped by their longevity, which enables them to assess situations with wisdom and pragmatism. Vampires take great pride in their intelligence, considering it a hallmark of their species. This pride can manifest in their interactions with others and their approach to challenges and problem-solving. The intellectual prowess of vampires can also lead to a sense of superiority, as they often view themselves as intellectually superior to other species.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Vampires can see and hear much better than humans are able to hear the sound of someone’s heartbeat and they can see about a mile out in each direction. Vampires can't taste human food really well, but to a vampire each person's blood has a different taste. Some people taste sweet like sweets or berries while others taste spicy or sour. Some people even have a slightly bitter taste to them. A vampire's sense of smell is really good. They are able to pick up each person's individual scent in a manner similar to dogs. Like other demons they can sense when there is someone watching them and are hyper aware of their surroundings at all times, which makes it hard to sneak up on them. Not impossible but still difficult. Since Vampires are considered a subspecies of demons they can use magic although some are better than others at it.

They encourage self-discovery and the freedom to express one's gender identity in whatever way feels most authentic to the individual. Vampire society may be characterized by acceptance and inclusivity, where individuals of all gender identities are valued and respected. Discrimination based on gender identity is strongly discouraged and in most pureblood circles nonexistent.   Vampires believe that true beauty transcends gender, and their ideals of attractiveness are based on characteristics that are not limited by traditional gender norms. These ideals focus on qualities like elegance, grace, and allure.

Courtship Ideals

Vampires are open to forming romantic and sexual connections with individuals of various genders and species. As a result, courtship can involve a wide range of potential partners. Potential partners seek out those with whom they share a deep understanding and resonance, often valuing intellectual and emotional connections above all else. Open and honest communication is a cornerstone of vampire courtship. Individuals interested in one another engage in candid discussions about their desires, boundaries, and intentions.   In a society where non-monogamy is the norm, courtship does not necessarily lead to exclusive, monogamous relationships. Instead, courtship can be a precursor to forming connections with multiple partners, each based on consent and mutual understanding. While courtship may lead to enduring romantic relationships, it can also result in more casual or short-term connections, depending on the desires and intentions of the individuals involved. The duration and nature of the relationship are often agreed upon through open communication.   Vampire courtship can involve the broader vampire community. Potential partners may engage in social events, gatherings, and activities with others, providing opportunities to meet like-minded individuals and explore various connections. The vampire community provides a supportive environment for courtship, with peers and mentors offering guidance and advice. Experienced vampires may serve as mentors to newcomers, helping them navigate the complexities of courtship.

Relationship Ideals

Vampires are open to a wide range of relationship structures, from intimate partnerships to group dynamics. Regardless of the relationship structure, emotional connection remains a central focus. Vampire relationships thrive on deep emotional bonds, fostering trust, understanding, and support. Relationships among vampires exist within a non-monogamous context, allowing individuals to form connections with multiple partners if desired.

This includes encrypted messages, magical communication methods, and secure networks.   Vampires have adapted to modern transportation methods, such as using vehicles or even private aircraft to move swiftly and discreetly. Some vampires have even developed methods of rapid movement, harnessing supernatural abilities or magic. Vampires have established institutions for educating their own kind in various fields, ensuring the transmission of knowledge and skills across generations. While not reliant on technology, vampires may integrate advanced gadgets and devices into their lifestyles when needed, such as for surveillance, information gathering, or personal convenience.

Common Etiquette Rules

Secrecy is paramount in vampire society. Vampires are expected to keep their true nature hidden from humans and other supernatural beings. Revealing their abilities or identity to outsiders is considered a grave breach of etiquette. Vampire society often has a hierarchical structure, with older and more powerful vampires holding positions of authority. Younger vampires are expected to show respect to their elders and defer to their judgment in matters of importance.   When meeting another vampire, it is customary to exchange formal greetings. This may include addressing the individual by their title or honorific and using polite language. Vampires typically require an invitation to enter a private residence or territory. Entering another vampire's domain without permission is a sign of disrespect and can lead to conflict. Vampires are careful when feeding on humans or other creatures. They avoid killing their prey whenever possible and exercise restraint to prevent excessive harm. Feeding discreetly and without drawing attention is essential.   Vampires often provide assistance to one another, whether it be protection, information, or resources. This is a sign of solidarity within the vampire community. Consent is highly valued among vampires. Before engaging in any form of intimate or physical interaction, individuals ensure they have the consent of all parties involved and respect each other's boundaries. Disputes among vampires may be resolved through duels or negotiations. Formal duels may have established rules, and conflicts are preferably settled within the vampire community to avoid exposing their kind to humans.   Experienced vampires often serve as mentors to younger or newly turned vampires. This mentorship involves passing on knowledge, guidance, and teaching them the customs and etiquette of vampire society. Vampires are expected to be loyal to their nests, clans, or communities. Betraying one's nest or clan is considered a severe breach of trust. Vampire society celebrates various traditions and rituals, which are observed with reverence and respect. These traditions often reflect their history and culture.   Vampires are expected to secure a reliable source of blood for sustenance while minimizing harm to humans. Hunting responsibly and not drawing attention to vampire activities is crucial. When interacting with humans, vampires are careful not to reveal their true nature. They maintain a facade of normalcy and avoid engaging in activities that would arouse suspicion. Vampires are cautious about sharing sensitive information, especially with outsiders. Information is shared on a need-to-know basis to protect the secrecy of the vampire community.

Common Dress Code

Vampires often favor classic and timeless clothing styles that never go out of fashion. This includes tailored suits, dresses, and outfits that exude sophistication. Dark colors, especially black, are a staple of vampire attire. Vampires frequently wear clothing in shades of black, deep red, burgundy, and midnight blue. These colors reflect their association with night and mystery. Vampires have a penchant for formal attire. Tuxedos, evening gowns, and cocktail dresses are commonly worn for special occasions or when mingling with high-society humans.   Accessories play a significant role in vampire fashion. Items like silk scarves, gloves, top hats, cufflinks, and fine jewelry are carefully chosen to complement their outfits. Vampires often incorporate vintage and gothic elements into their wardrobe. Victorian-era fashion, lace, corsets, and ruffled blouses are popular choices among some vampire circles. Vampires pay meticulous attention to the fit of their clothing. Tailored outfits that accentuate their slender, athletic physique are preferred.   To hide their vampiric features, such as fangs or eyes, vampires may wear high collars, scarves, or sunglasses during the day or when mingling with humans. When interacting in the human world during the day, vampires opt for clothing that conceals their true nature. This might include sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, and long sleeves. Eveningwear: For nocturnal activities, vampires embrace elegant evening wear. This can include lavish ball gowns, tuxedos, and accessories that add a touch of mystery and allure.   Vampires prioritize comfort in their attire, especially for activities that require agility or combat. Leather jackets, form-fitting pants, and comfortable yet stylish footwear are chosen for such occasions. Some vampires incorporate clan or nest emblems discreetly into their clothing as a sign of loyalty and belonging. Vampires are adaptable and can adjust their clothing to fit various circumstances. They are known for their ability to blend into any setting, whether it's a high-society gala or an underground lair.   Cloaks and capes, often in dark colors and luxurious fabrics, are favored outerwear for vampires. They add an air of drama and mystique to their appearance. For significant vampire gatherings, rituals, or ceremonies, vampires may wear elaborate and ceremonial clothing, including robes, masks, and symbols of their heritage.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Blood Ceremonies: Blood ceremonies are significant rituals in vampire culture. These ceremonies may involve the sharing of blood between vampires, symbolizing unity, trust, and loyalty. Blood ceremonies are often performed during important life events, such as forming a nest, mating, or sealing alliances between clans.   Turning Rituals: When a human is chosen to become a vampire, a turning ritual is performed. This ritual involves the exchange of blood between the vampire and the human, marking the transformation into a vampire. Turning rituals are conducted with great care, as they are considered sacred and life-altering.   Nest Formation: Nests are small, close-knit groups of vampires who live and work together. The formation of a nest is celebrated with a special ceremony, where the members pledge their loyalty and support to one another. Nests often have their own customs and traditions.   Clan Gatherings: Clans, which are larger vampire communities or families, hold regular gatherings to discuss important matters, celebrate achievements, and reinforce their collective identity. These gatherings often involve feasting, music, and storytelling.   Solstice Celebrations: Vampires mark the solstices with special celebrations. These events often include nighttime gatherings, dancing, and rituals that honor the changing of the seasons and the power of darkness.   The Blood Moon Festival: The Blood Moon Festival is a grand event celebrated by vampires worldwide. It occurs during a rare lunar eclipse and involves elaborate feasts, dancing, and ceremonies. It is a time for vampires to come together, strengthen alliances, and perform powerful rituals.   Blood Oaths: Vampires sometimes make blood oaths to seal promises or alliances. These oaths are binding and taken very seriously. Breaking a blood oath is considered a grave offense.   Mating Ceremonies: Mating ceremonies, which formalize the bond between vampire mates, are conducted with great solemnity. They involve the exchange of blood and vows of eternal commitment. Mated pairs often wear matching or complementary symbols to signify their bond.   Ancestral Worship: Some vampire clans and nests have a tradition of ancestral worship. They honor their forebears through rituals, offerings, and storytelling to keep their memory alive and seek their guidance.   Trials and Duels: Disputes among vampires are sometimes settled through trials or duels. These can be formal ordeals that follow established rules and customs. The outcome of a trial or duel is respected by all parties involved.   Feeding Rites: Vampires have specific feeding rituals and codes of conduct. They may take turns feeding within a nest, ensuring that everyone has access to a sufficient blood supply. There are also rituals to minimize harm to their human donors.   Masked Balls: For certain formal events or celebrations, vampires may host masked balls. These events allow vampires to conceal their identities and enjoy an evening of anonymity and intrigue.   Blood Tithes: In some vampire societies, members are expected to provide blood tithes to their leaders or elders as a sign of respect and support. These tithes may be collected during clan gatherings or other special occasions.

Common Taboos

Revealing Their True Nature: One of the most fundamental taboos for vampires is revealing their true nature to humans. Vampires go to great lengths to maintain secrecy, and exposing their existence to humans is strictly forbidden. Doing so risks the exposure of their entire community and way of life.   Betraying Clan or Nest: Loyalty to one's clan or nest is paramount. Betraying the trust of fellow vampires, especially within a nest or clan, is a taboo that carries severe consequences. Betrayal can lead to ostracization or even execution.   Violating Blood Oaths: Blood oaths are sacred promises sealed with blood. Breaking a blood oath is considered a breach of trust and a violation of the deepest bonds between vampires. Those who break blood oaths may be subjected to punishment or exile.   Disrespecting Ancestors: Ancestral worship is a tradition in some vampire cultures. Disrespecting or dishonoring one's ancestors is a grave taboo. Ancestors are believed to watch over and guide their descendants, and disrespecting them is seen as an affront to the entire bloodline.   Revealing Clan or Nest Secrets: Vampires often have closely guarded secrets within their clans or nests. Sharing these secrets with outsiders is strictly prohibited and can lead to dire consequences.   Neglecting to Mentor Newborns: Older vampires are expected to mentor and guide newly turned vampires. Neglecting this duty and leaving newborn vampires to fend for themselves is seen as a failure of responsibility.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Humans

Vampires love humans but the kind of love they have for them can and often is different from vampire to vampire. Some see humans as champions fostering genuine relationships with them, some see them as food only, and others see them as pets that they can play with and abandon at any time. Vampires engage in sexual and romantic acts with humans regularly; it's one of their favorite past times.   Most Vampires found humans interesting in the same way that a human might find a dog interesting. They don’t often see them as equals and the ones that do are outliers, even ones that form romantic bonds with humans might not fully see them as an equal until they are turned. Humans on the other hand found vampires both terrifying and extremely attractive, humans are drawn to vampires like a moth to flame and it often gets them killed or turned. There are humans, like the Hellsings, who hunt and kill vampires, these people are known as Vampire Hunters.

Werewolves

Werewolves and vampires often have a tense and adversarial relationship. The two species are natural enemies, with werewolves possessing a deep-seated hatred for vampires. The rivalry between them often results in violent confrontations, and both sides consider the other a significant threat.

Unicorns

Unicorns hold a deep-seated animosity towards vampires, likely due to their predatory nature and the threat they pose to other creatures. Vampires, in turn, are cautious around unicorns due to their aggressive stance. This mutual hostility keeps the two species at odds, and they tend to avoid each other when possible.

Dragons

Vampires and dragons seem to coexist without much interaction. Their paths rarely cross, likely because both species have their own territories and priorities. Vampires perceive dragons as powerful but not worth the risk of confrontation. The only way a vampire can ever taste dragon blood is through buying it at black markets around the world.

Elves

Vampires and elves share a surprisingly positive relationship. Elves willingly allow vampires to drink from them, indicating a level of trust and cooperation. Romantic relationships between vampires and elves are not uncommon, highlighting the unique bond between these two species. Vampires view elves as equals, a rare perspective in the vampire world. This mutual respect and cooperation set vampires and elves apart from other interspecies relations.

Other Species

Demons: The relationship between vampires and demons is complex and multifaceted. While vampires are considered a subspecies of demons, their interactions with other demon species can vary. Some vampires form alliances with demons, while others keep their distance. Demons may view vampires with curiosity or as potential allies, but they also recognize that vampires have their own agendas and can be manipulative.   Deities: Vampires likely have a reverence for deities, recognizing their immense power and influence. However, the specific interactions between vampires and deities would depend on the belief systems and religious practices in your world. Some vampires may seek favor from deities, while others may avoid them altogether.   Angels: Vampires and angels could have a strained relationship due to their inherently different natures. Angels are often associated with light and purity, while vampires are creatures of darkness and predation. Interactions between the two could range from cautious avoidance to outright hostility.

Demon Threat Level

Over the years humans have developed a system for determining the threat level of a demon. Each rank has been assigned a threat level by The Black Roses, leading experts in demonology and demon hunting. Threat Level factors in not just sheer power but also intelligence and mental prowess. If a demon is powerful but stupid this lowers their threat level as they can be easily outsmarted making them less of a threat for experienced demon hunters.

Level 5

Level 5 demons are considered to be cannon fodder by demon hunters as they don’t pose much of a threat. However large numbers of them can be overwhelming to inexperienced demon hunters which is why when detailing with large groups of Level 5 demons it is recommended to keep a distance and wait for reinforcements.

Level 4

Level 4 demons are slightly more of a threat than Level 5 demons but they are still for the most part very easy to deal with. A good number of demons are labeled as a level 4 threat as most low level demons tended to fall here or a level below.

Level 3

Level 3 demons are troublesome. They can bring a town with hundreds of people to ruin. They are smart and deadly. They often require a team of low ranked demon hunters to kill them. They are dangerous and cillivans are not to interact with them for any reason.

Level 2

Level 2 demons are demons who can destroy a city with thousands to even a million people. Only the top demon hunters teams or otherwise can go against them in any way. They are highly dangerous and if spotted it should be reported immediately to the proper authority so that they can prepare for evacuation. Nobility and some high level demons are listed here

Level 1

Level 1 demons are not to be engaged by anyone ever. They are dangerous and powerful and they can not be beaten. They can level a city with millions of people in it if they so choose to. Luckily Level 1 demons don’t see any fun in killing so many humans at once. Royalty are the only ones listed here.

Vampiric Essence

A Vampires' Soul is typically called their Vampiric Essence. Vampiric Essence is made of pure negative energy unlike normal souls which tend to be made of both Negative and Positive Energy (Some have more of one than the other). This negative energy is oftentimes extremely volatile and reactive causing it to lash out at anything and everything around it. Vampires who lack the experience, skill, and discipline necessary to control their Vampiric Essence are ranked low on both threat levels as they can't use their Vampiric Essence with any real level of efficiency. There are two types of Vampiric Essence, Corrupted Soul, and Normal Vampiric Essence. When a Human becomes a vampire their soul gets corrupted by negative soul energy turning it into Vampiric Essence.

Vampire Venom

Vampire venom is light, green colored liquid that is located in a vampire's top gums. The venom also has a mesmerizing and controlling effect on the victim. It can induce a trance-like state, making it easier for the vampire to feed without resistance. This mind control aspect of the venom can be used to manipulate and influence the victim's thoughts and actions. Vampires use their venom to keep their victims in a state of euphoria during feeding, ensuring they can extract more blood without the victim experiencing excessive pain or trauma. This prolongs the feeding process and provides a more satisfying meal for the vampire. Vampire venom also has limited healing properties. When a vampire feeds on a human, it can accelerate the healing of minor injuries or illnesses in the victim, ensuring they remain healthy enough for subsequent feedings.   Vampire Venom's can be used to transform other creatures into vampires. It works by biting the victim in a major artery in the neck or wrist and allowing around 100 mg of the venom to flow through the victim's bloodstream and into the heart. Once the venom reaches the heart it will start to attack it over and over again until it eventually stops completely and once the heart stops the venom will then slowly corrupt the soul turning it into Vampiric Essence. All of this happens over the course of a week. The heart stops two days into this process and if you can administer a vampire venom antidote before that time you can stop the victim from turning into a vampire.

Vampire Blood

Vampire blood is a dark red liquid the same consistency as human blood and since like most creatures vampire blood holds a significant portion of their Vampiric Essence in it. Vampires can and have drunk each other's blood in order to gain power. The more powerful a vampire the better their blood taste and the more power you gain by drinking it. Vampire blood has also been known to be used in certain types of potions and spells and even some rituals that have been lost to time. Vampires have about 2.5-3.5 liters of blood in their bodies which is why they're so sickly looking.

Vampire Allure

Vampire allure is the magnetic, captivating and seductive ability that all vampires possess to lure and enthrall their prey. This power enhances their natural allure and charisma, making it nearly impossible for potential victims to resist their advances. This ability can never be turned off but it can be trained sort of like muscle. In some cases Vampire Allure can extend to a mild form of mind control, allowing the vampire to influence the thoughts and actions of their prey. This makes it so the victim is more willing to comply with the vampire’s desires.   Vampires can even use this power to manipulate the emotions of their victims, creating feelings of intense desire, attraction, or infatuation. This emotional manipulation can cloud the judgment of the victim, making them more susceptible to the vampire's advances. Vampire Allure often extends to physical sensations, making the vampire's touch, scent, and taste irresistible to their prey. Victims may become addicted to the vampire's presence and crave their attention.   Vampire Allure typically has a limited range, affecting those who are in close proximity to the vampire. The strength of the allure can vary from one vampire to another, with some possessing a more potent and compelling charm. While Vampire Allure is potent, it is not foolproof. Some individuals, particularly those with strong willpower or supernatural resistance, may be more resistant to its effects. Additionally, certain protective measures or magical wards can shield potential victims from its influence.

Vampire Cure

The only thing in existence that can "cure" a vampire is the blood of a god. It gets rid of some of the symptoms of vampirism but not all and it's a roll of the dice on which ones it will get rid of. Which is why it's said that there is no true cure for vampirism. You either die a vampire or you turn into something else. You never go back to being human. All other attempts of a cure have failed and will always fail.

Their physical attributes enable them to move swiftly and gracefully, making them agile and adept at avoiding danger and pursuing prey. Their physique is characterized by leanness rather than brute strength. They do not rely on raw power but instead use their agility and quick reflexes to outmaneuver opponents. Vampires' bodies are adapted for their predatory lifestyle, allowing them to stalk and capture their prey with precision and finesse. Their physique aligns with their role as apex predators in their ecosystem.   While they may not possess overwhelming strength, stronger than a human but not as strong as a werewolf, their physical abilities are finely tuned. They are capable of rapid movements, swift strikes, and exceptional coordination, making them formidable in combat situations. Their elegance and beauty can be both alluring and disarming, contributing to their ability to blend into human society when necessary.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Vampires exhibit a broad spectrum of skin tones, highlighting their diversity within the species. This diversity can include pale, fair, medium, dark, and even unconventional or otherworldly skin colors. Vampires with paler skin are oftentimes more sensitive to sunlight and require greater protection when exposed to it. Skin tone and coloring can vary by vampire bloodline, with specific lineages exhibiting distinct characteristics. Vampires with unconventional or otherworldly skin tones can change their skin color to fit into various environments or to suit their needs, especially when navigating human society or concealing their true nature.   Some vampires may have unique markings on their skin, which can vary in shape, size, and location. These marks could be symbols, patterns, or even intricate tattoos that carry personal or cultural significance. Certain vampire bloodlines or clans may have specific markings that identify their members. These markings can be a source of pride and distinction among vampires. Over their extended lifetimes, vampires may accumulate scars and battle marks from encounters with enemies, vampire hunters, or other supernatural beings. These scars can tell stories of their past experiences and battles.
