Mordrath, The City of Possibilities

Mordrath is a sprawling city within the Realmscape. It is ruled by a singular person, technically. The King/Prince is said to rule over the city and he along with some specific few individuals who have disappeared into the citadel many years ago keep the shield around the City active and the Realmscape Anchor intact.   However, anymore Mordrath is ruled by a collection of Organizations and Families all vying for control over the city. Most seek power while others seek wealth, fame, or glory. Some are idealists and some are not. Everyone fights for one reason or another, but it all seems to connect to one thing, influence over Mordrath.

Government

The Government of Mordrath is largely left to interpretation. While literally the City is owned by a Prince of sorts and thus more of an Autocratic Monarchy. However, because the Prince oftentimes does not enforce the any rules or laws upon the people, it is largely more anarchic with individual factions and houses warring amongst each other within the City for influence over the people.

Defences

The Defenses of Mordrath include the massive Magical Dome that encircles the city atop it's plateau which is also a rather defensive area. Beyond that, the city itself has multiple layers of walls that separate the city into Districts and levels. Furthermore, the many people whom live within Mordrath as well as the large amount of factions are known to band together, even if only for a short time to decimate any exterior threat to their city.

Industry & Trade

The Mordrathi People follow all walks of life and trade. The benefit of living in Mordrath is that it is a massive trade hub and "Center City" to travel to other realms. This has attracted a colorful array of peoples of all walks of life. There are smiths, barkeepers, merchants, among a myriad of other things that people work as and almost any resource imaginable flows through the city.

Guilds and Factions

The City of Mordrath is constantly being fought over by many factions of all sorts. From Assassins and Merchants Guilds to massive houses that control sections and buisnesses of the city. Peacekeeper factions and vigilantes to massive underground criminal empires. Mordrath is home to factions of all sorts that can appeal to almost any person within the Realms.

The Ruling Houses

  • House Blackmoore - House Blackmoore is one of the most influential families of Mordrath. Largely they focus on business and industry and on the surface are a pleasant House with influence spanning the Sectors and general favor being shown towards them. However, those who cross them seem to ... disappear.
  • House Mordai - House Mordai is a largely militant House modeled after the Greek Spartans. Their main force consists of Hoplites which patrol the city in small platoons of about twenty. They are a feared House, however they do demand a certain amount of respect as they are at the forefront of the Peace and Lawkeeping in Mordrath.
  • House Ulritch - House Ulritch is a reclusive House in Mordrath. It is not entirely well-known, however it is one of the largest collection of Magi within the city. While not technically affiliated with the Council of Magi, they do have ties to various Magic-based shops and smaller groups within the city. They also field a large army of Battle Mages.
  • House Drakwald - House Drakwald is a massive House dedicated to trade within the city. They are lead by a Legendary Dwarven Smith and his family and control a large amount of the trade going in and out of the city. They don't typically deal with anything in the lower districts however and instead stick to the higher and more middle-class districts. But in those districts they rule the Merchants and Tradesmen with an iron fist.
  • House Vorathi - House Vorathi is unique amongst the major Ruling Houses of Mordrath. While they keep a good public presence with the people and are known for being very gregarious. (The Following is not common knowledge) However, their true specialization is the Assassin and Thieves Guilds throughout the city. Most of these guilds rely on Vorathi's permission to operate and for jobs. As such, most of the darker guilds find themselves grovelling at the feet of The Grey Seer himself.
  • House Ulthuan - House Ulthuan finds themselves as a Ruling House, but a minor one at best. They, unlike the other houses, do not have the ancient history nor the city-wide influence and backing. Instead they find themselves as a new faction seeking to uphold their position within the city and in fact elevate it along with other factions. They have a focus more on mercantile trade and thus have more influence in the slums than House Drakwald. But it is still minor as the lower districts are hard to keep hold on. Instead they try to regulate some of the traders coming into the city versus many of the old tradesmen who have lived here for years and are already under Drakwald's influence.
