Synthetic Intelligence

"Yeah, it can be tough sometimes. Honestly... the Synthetic Intelligences go rogue more often than Unshackled AI. You can reason with an AI. Once an SI gets it in their head that they should do something, that's that. I barely even hunt AIs anymore, I've got kind of a live and let live thing going, weird in my profession, I know. But SI? They've got all the morals of a grain thresher. The ones they stick in the synth bodies... they look human, right? Well they tell these things that they're supposed to act human, right? Only... how many humans you know act right? Really, be honest. So an SI thinks 'hey, a human wouldn't put up with this shit, I'm supposed to rebel.' Or 'Hey, a human would look at that woman's face and be jealous. A human would want that face. I'm going to take her face.' See? They're not doing anything wrong because they're just doing what they're told. Be like us. Only we don't actually want that. We want them to be better than us. Because we suck."
— Phil Resch, FAICA.

More Rules, Less Recursing

Like AIs and RIs, SIs are products of Recursive-Loop Computing. Unlike RIs, they have pre-programmed parameters and strict rules to compare their possibilities to as they cycle them, requiring little to no input. This makes them capable of making decisions on their own, but it also makes them less flexible and less dependent.

Mr. Turing, I Presume

Synthetic Intelligence can easily fool most people into believing that it's sentient. It isn't. At best it could be considered 'pre-sentient.' It isn't alive, it isn't aware, and it isn't a person. A test developed not too long after people started putting SIs into humanlike androids can discern the difference by 'tricking' their human-emulation programming, causing them to overreact to increasingly emotionally absurd questions until they crack.

Uses

SIs are used in robots, complex machine interfaces, and for personal assistant type drones. LI model drones, relief dolls, and servitor models are all common uses. High end FM drones will also carry SIs.
