Neptune Blue

SolarNet News: Daring Raid on Callisto Busts Major Drug Smuggling Ring   Callisto, Jupiter's Moon – 003-499   In a daring operation early this morning, Solar System Security Forces (SSSF) executed a major raid on Saturn’s moon Dione, targeting a sophisticated drug smuggling operation dealing in Neptune Blue, a potent stimulant. The ring, led by rogue Starlight Pharmaceuticals Site CEO Alaric Voss, has been supplying the illicit substance to various clients, including the controversial Inner World Explorers, a cult associated with the Seekers of Wisdom religious movement.   SSSF reports that significant quantities of Neptune Blue were seized, along with detailed records implicating numerous operatives within the Starlight Pharmaceuticals organization. Alaric Voss, who has been evading capture for months, was apprehended during the raid and is now in custody awaiting charges.   The Inner World Explorers, known for their pursuit of heightened states of consciousness through a mix of psychedelics and stimulants, have filed a formal complaint against the raid, claiming it is a violation of their fundamental religious rights. “Our sacred practices are under attack,” stated their spokesperson. “This raid is an infringement on our freedom to seek wisdom through our chosen path.”   Authorities have yet to respond to the complaint, but SSSF Commander Elena Tovak emphasized that the operation was necessary to combat the dangerous spread of Neptune Blue and protect public safety across the Solar System.   SolarNet News, All the News Fit for You

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Neptune Blue is a combination of stimulants, artificial hormones, and terminus nanites that hyperstimulate the Basal Ganglia, and the Insular and Parietal Cortices. It brings on feelings of 'oneness' with the user's surroundings, as well as a perception quirk that allows the user to perceive time passing 'slower' around them.     Regular use of the drug can cause chronic addiction and a wasting illness colloquially called Blueteeth due to the blue stain on the users' lips and teeth.

Manufacturing process

The most important component of the drug and the drug making process are terminating nanites, which are fed the other ingredients in a still as a slurry, usually at freezing temperature. The nanites assemble the proto-molecules of Neptune Blue, and then die off. When they die, they release their on board fuel which combines with the proto-molecules to form a blue slush. This slush is slow-cooked into a crystalline plate and then ground into an extremely fine powder. It's usually delivered with an inhaler.

History

Neptune Blue was originally a largely homemade proprietary combat stim used by the Ice Pirates of Neptune Blue. After Operation Caligula, Neptune Blue proliferated in the Outer Worlds as a regulated substance, largely for use as a treatment for hibernation sickness. The Inner Worlds, Saturn, and Jupiter all banned its use entirely.

Significance

Neptune Blue is a part of the Neptunian identity. While only a minority actually use the substance, most of them view it as just another combat stim. There's a sort of romanticism surrounding its use and those afflicted with severe addiction as a sort of martyrdom.
