"I've done a lot of terrible things for this corporation. Not letting Barry die... bringing him back like that? It's got to be the worst thing I've ever done. I've killed dozens of men but their faces don't haunt me as terribly as the one I brought back."
~Captain Jeremy Pryer
A Miracle of Science
The reanimation of dead tissue has been a fever dream of science fiction writers from the very beginning of the genre. While this dream has been achieved
Clinical Reanimation, the category of 'honorable mention' has left some terrible, terrifying prospects on the table. Necrotubes are one such dark miracle.
A Tube of Goo
A necrotube is a specialized
nanofab tube. Rather than just drawing carbon to create
Carbexene constructs, it converts the biomass of a dead creature into a
Bioroid.
Necromancy in the Age of Convergence
There are two varieties of necrotube. The original legal variant was supposed to be a medical device. While the technology progressed enormously from its original failures, it never quite repaired
enough for the markets to accept the results before
Clinical Reanimation came around. This results in a
Necroid, free-willed and generally confused about their new existence.
The other variety is highly illegal, definitively unethical, and morally reprehensible. The resulting
Necroid is programmed to obey someone else; typically the one who brought them back.
