Nanofab Tube

"I'm honestly getting to a point in my life where I don't even want to carry a gun. I'll just load out with nanotubes and make turrets, guns, grenades, samurai swords, and maybe a few drones along the way."   ~Corporal Jeremy Jinks

Flagship Product

Nanofab Tubes are primarily manufactured by Yute, Seneca, Lister Unified (YSLU), a corporation that is largely dedicated to crowdsourcing and bringing goods to the people. They make their money on the front end, which means that their designs are almost all generics.

Engineer in a Can

Nanofab Tubes have a small, simple holographic interface where you can choose from a catalogue of YSLU products. When you've made a selection, you simply slam the tube down and thumb the release. The nanites in the tube get to work, drawing carbon out of the air, out of the ground, deckplates, or even bodies until it assembles the required device. These devices tend to be more fragile than those that come from a Gigafactorum, but they are serviceable enough in a pinch.   It typically assembles a product at 1 round per 5 kilograms x its complexity (minimum 1 round).

Duct Tape but Better

Another technique to use a nanofab tube is for quick-and-dirty emergency repairs. For a smooth surface (a starship hull, a spacesuit, combat armor, a bridge, etc) it can simply weld an expanse of Carbexene to fill a gap. For more complex repairs, such as a blown engine or repairing the internal components of a scanner, some amount of skill is going to be required, and the resulting patch will not function for long.

Everything Can Be a Murder Weapon if You Try Hard Enough

As mentioned above, Nanofab Tubes can be used to draw and utilize the carbon out of a human body. By default, they are sold with a safety that prevents this, but a reasonably skilled engineer or programmer can override this feature. Additionally, Cracked Nanofabs are sold anywhere illegal weaponry can be found.
