Spirits are the lingering auras of those who have died. Most have an imbued sense of purpose and a desire to fulfill their goals. They have no memory of what lives they had before. This causes some panic, but most of the time their given jobs are enough to taper their fears. Spirits have risen to take the place of Avians as the peace keepers of the world, holding the line between civilization and the old world. Many believe they were formed in the great forgetting, because of their amnesia, though that is only a suspicion. While spirits are only workers in the grand scheme of the cosmos, some people have deemed them messengers of the lost Elementals due to them being linked to the 5 elements.
Spirits retain much of their previous appearances, but they also take on traits of their element. Creatures that died in a fiery death often appear like an infernal of some kind, those that died in an avalanche or earthy death take on a harsh, rocky appearance. Those that died in drowned appear as they did in their last moments, and those that Froze are actually made of ice. Those associated with air are both the rarest and the least recognizable since the take on the form of a whirlwind. Some spirits are chosen to move on. These are called Reapers and no one knows what they look like.
Genetics and Reproduction
Spirits can’t reproduce on their own, and as such don’t have a reproduction system or cycle.
Growth Rate & Stages
They come into existance fully formed, and they are almost untouched by time. They do not grow older and “die” when their memory fades or they have completed their mission.
Ecology and Habitats
Spirits prefer the habitat they were made in, though they are not bound to it.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Spirits do not require food, but they can eat it. They can actually eat almost everything. They can express preferences but food doesn’t satisfy anything anymore.
Elemental spirits are all on the same level, bound in an hounor bound relationship with the others. They however are compelled to listen to reapers, the impartial, otherworldly entities that are in charge of keeping the fragile balance of the second realm.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They retain the same sensory imput as their former species while also taking on something called the spirit sense, a sort of connection to specific auras. They can sense when a living person is near death, especially when the style is similar to their own.
Civilization and Culture
Spirits often choose a name from their birth place such as leaf, daisy, oak, willow, Granit, gold, zinc, or by taking a fragment of their former name if they can remember it, such as Roxi (Roxanne), Al or Alex (Alexandre), or Rign (Caterina). They rarely take a last name unless its required by the civilization around them.
Sizes very fro minuscule to large
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Spirits are disconnected from realty, living with one foot in reality and one foot somewhere else. This really gives them an otherworldly, shifting visage. Spirits usually stick to natural colorings, helping them blend into their surroundings.
