A lethal disease ravaged the Dome.

It was bad. Almost a quarter of the cardinate population died before it was done, and it took a year to find a treatment. Between evocation and their own deaths, the scion population was almost nonexistent by the end of this.   Because of this, and the large number of Equivalents now in crucial positions in society, there were a number of reforms to the system, and after this feelings were generally a lot better. So many of them used to be scions, after all. Beyond that, the group as a whole had really stepped up during the outbreak. Positioned in the lower, maintenance work positions, they were the ones to keep things running by sheer force of will. A number of positions that had historically forbidden scions from holding them were opened up simply because scions had to hold those positions when no one else was available.   It revealed a certain dependency on that population, and the symbiotic nature there. They all needed each other, and to denigrate this group made someone look poorly.
