Jonathan Tersten

Jonathan Tersten (a.k.a. The Founding Father)

Jonathan Tersten (Born 37BC) was a human penal prisoner, statesman and politican. He is considered to be the founding father of Tersten, having been a prisoner, escaped to freedom, and then returned to bring about an end to the penal system in the North. He worked to achieve a lasting peace between the República de Nevada and the Pinascimate Republic, which allowed for the unification of the planet and the eventual founding of the Republic of Tersten. His death in 19 cemented his legacy in the planet's history, which voted to name itself in his honour.

History

Jonathan Tersten was born on Yuklid V in 37BC (2198). What is known of his early life is that in 2BC he took part in the widespread Yuklid Riots and was arrested in 1PC for assault.  Initially handed a 12 month sentence, the man soon found himself bound for the Pinascimate Penal Authority.   He rose to prominence in 12, when he voluntarily returned to Harelstone Prison after having escaped years prior. He remained in prison for six months, where he rose to become the Prisoner-Ambassador, responsible for multiple acts of peaceful protest against the penal system.   After a fire broke out in Harelstone Prison, Tersten endeavoured to rescue as many as possible, and led them to found the city of Freetown, later renamed Tersten City.   Negotiating with the First Lordanian Republic, Tersten was able to achieve a full pardoning for his planet's people. The Penal Colony was disbanded, and the new Pinascimate Republic quickly became a recognised part of the Lordanian Republic.   In the last days of his life, Tersten was active in the Pinascimate Government, and brokered a peace deal between Pinascimate and Nevada. On his return from this meeting, his craft crashed in the Tersten wastelands. Despite medical treatment, Tersten was unable to be saved. He is buried in Tersten City, and his memorial attracts thousands of visitors daily.
