The Scarlet Rue

Scarlet Homurabami (a.k.a. The Scarlet Rue)

Profile
Scarlet Homurabami, The Scarlet Rue. He bears an ability born a regretful affinity to a monster he's become the unwilling successor to. Scarlet possesses a troubled past, originally the proceeding vessel to a vile existence, by chance or miracle, the ritual that would have reduced him to nothing more than a means of prolongment was interrupted. Though gaining his freedom, even he understands that he has yet to make a clean break from his tormented legacy
Scarlet can appear rather ditzy and scatterbrained, often having difficulty focusing most of the time. Though slightly timid and awkward at times, he's acts rather friendly and sincere. Despite this, he hides many reservations about everyone he meets, a more observant person realizing how his kindness and politeness are tools to keep others at arms length, and that he has an incredibly cautious and wary disposition. Any who bypass the distance he tries to maintain, may find a very cutthroat side to him. Scarlet has a great capacity for ruthlessness when circumstances demand. Although, his kindness is no act, being equally great in honest integrity, it is simply that his neuroticisms have co-opted his tenderness into defense mechanisms. As frightening as he can be at times, in reality he's a big fraidy-cat whose heart is obscured by layers of baggage.
Without his remnant, his ability is called "Wandering Flame", an EI, and allows Scarlet instantly transport anything consumed in his scarlet fire to the location of another flame, be it object, person, or himself. He can quickly generate this scarlet flame and engulf his surroundings to teleport or attack. Though one must we wary, one Scarlet decides which of his flames become a portal to another, and one may find themselves accidentally throwing themselves into a ravenous fire instead and be burnt to ash. Flames that are not portals still act like a strong fire, burning and spreading. His remnant, Grimmjack, was born from the embers left behind from the beast that kindled the flames of famine.
Grimmjack, The Wager
The master of this remnant stays ever vigilant and wary of this remnant as it and he are the shadow of a monster, as well as the means for either its true destruction or return. This remnant's precursor was a monster whose power toyed with the flames within a person. It would trap this flame under a glass but refused the flame to go out even when there was no air left, making it ravenously burn through everything else and eventually itself. This monster trapped its victims in a game that leaves them deprived and depraved, rendered down to nothing but a hunger far removed from the person they appeared to be. The master of this remnant knows very well the nature of this power; famine, starvation, an existence born from the fear of what may lie beneath the decorum of intellect and morality. He still does not know what is underneath and what may or not be a façade, but silently hopes to never need to know the answer.

Grimmjack manifests as a large cloaked figure with thin spindly appendages and a crescent shaped head. Its large cloak is black on the outside but scarlet on the inside. But often time, Scarlet manifests it as a the cloak he equips during combat, him being able to manipulate Grimmjack in this form like flexible appendages, forming razor edges or long spikes.
The unbound ability, Scarlet Rue, allows Grimm to covert vitality into poker chips. These poker chips can be used to create a variety of bladed weapons that can steal the vitality of anyone they injure, the strength of this effect as well as the strength of the weapon is dictated by the amount of chips used to create it. Its true nature however is to impose "gambles" where immaterial things can be put on the line. Scarlet's weapon creation and siphoning power simply being a manifestation of the "gamble" that is combat.

Style and Abilities
In terms of physical strength, Scarlet is an active threat, able to easily traverse the field. Scarlet can use all manifested weapons skillfully but seems to have an aptitude for using scythes and daggers, while also wielding his flames with great proficiency. Though Scarlet has skilled command over his flames, he's mostly a weapons master and focuses on armed combat while using his flames as a medium for his absurd mobility. He's also very intuitive when it comes to combat knowledge as well as risks, knowing when to go all in and when to fold. His general strategy is a relentless offence that aims to rush down an opponent, but his danger comes from the effects of his ability. This kind of strategy has the weakness of quickly running out of steam should a person fail to end the fight, but due to Scarlet's ability to steal his opponent's steam, he can simply keep going until his target is left dry, and even if he's stuck in a disadvantageous position, relocation is a cinch.

Scarlet is a very difficult opponent in both open and closed spaces with seemingly no exploitable weaknesses, the only way to beat him is to simply outclass him, but even so, his life-stealing abilities can cause cascades that pull the situation to his favour. Scarlet's combat is all about risking it all and reaping rewards as he literally gambles with his life. The most effective tactic to best him is to target his often overlooked weakness, desperation. There's an uncomfortable middle point right after he's spend his chips on a weapon but has yet to steal some of his opponent's, it is here where he's most vulnerable. His power forces him to pay the price upfront, and an opponent who can evade his draining ability cuts off his payout, leaving him strapped and starved instead.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Due to his ability, his maneuverability is nigh-unmatched and has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal, as well as a powerful flame under his command. His scarlet fire can remain lit very far distances from him allowing him to to travel large distances very quickly but can be extinguished like a normal flame. The size of the flame doesn't limit what can be transported through it, and Grimmjack can generate scarlet flames as well. His teleportation does require open space, unable to teleport to locations that cannot accommodate the size of whatever is being transported. With Grimmjack's ability, the strength of the created weapon's life-steal grows in proportion to the chips spent. The activation of the life-steal requires direct critical-hits while scratches, grazes, and blocked attacks wont take any vitality. All of the equipment summoned by Grimm appear to consist of a sturdy black glass-like material that though can be quite sharp, is also brittle and prone to cracking when placed under enough strain, at which the vitality used to create is completely lost. This arsenal seems to be limited to a few basic bladed weapons such as daggers and swords, but also a large scythe seemingly being Scarlet's signature weapon. Despite this not being the true extend of his power, Scarlet rarely uses it for anything beyond this.

Specialized Equipment

He's rather skilled at surprise attacks and ambush tactics designed to quickly get in and out. He can easily teleport short distances without using existing flames by quickly generating but a spark and immediately teleporting through it. His abilities have the potential to be very costly, and at mint fighting condition, Scarlet has vitality equal to 150 chips while being able to hold that much as well. His manifested equipment are very powerful in terms of offensive capabilities, but very lacking in durability. His weapons are much more effective for offence then defense as their brittle composition makes them easy to break, especially weak to blunt weapons and durable armor as they may even shatter against an opponent's defense. Aside from these, many forget that his overcoat, which is actually his remnant, is a weapon too, him manipulating the fabric to form spikes or defend against attacks. Should the situation call, he can have Grimmjack take full form to have a second body to fight alongside.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Scarlet is horrifyingly good at gambling games even though one would have to coax him into a match. Despite this, many rarely challenge him again due to crushing defeat and the unbearable tension Scarlet simply induces when thigs become high-strung.

History

Tedric was drawn to Scarlet for reasons somewhat unknown to them, this odd allure resulting in an uncharacteristic fondness Tedric has for Scarlet. Scarlet on the other hand is rather conflicted for reasons he's hesitant to share, but doesn't let it sully their relationship. Moirai theorizes this may be due to the similar nature of the two's Id.

History

Scarlet met Moirai when he was assigned to the same group Moirai was a part of, Moirai immediately noticing the incongruencies in Scarlet's outward demeanor and the hidden disposition he caught a glimpse of. The ensuing confrontation, though only leading to small steps, were what began a journey that led to a close enough friendship that Scarlet disclosed his greatest secret to Moirai.   However, despite their great comradery, Scarlet still acknowledges both their status' as renaissance, and the dangers that come with it, thus Scarlet's neuroticisms persist. Moirai is not oblivious to this and isn't naïve, knowing that Scarlet's concerns are not groundless. Their main point of contention being that Scarlet greatly fears uncertainty while Moirai is able to revel in it. Regardless, he is one of the few comforts Scarlet has and gladly plays that role for him.
