Valvium

Valvium is an ore found in the mountains surrounding Norheimsk  and is the biggest source of income of the Dwarven civilization. In its refined form, valvium superheats when it comes in contact with water turning it into steam, paving the way towards numerous technological advancements in the right hands.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Valvium is a brown ore that appears in small veins deep down the surface beneath Norheimsk when it comes into contact with water, it starts emitting a red hue.

Physical & Chemical Properties

In and of itself, valvium is cold to the touch but when brought in contact with water it starts superheating itself, leaving third-degree burns to anyone touching it. Especially refined valvium heats to the point it instantly turns water into steam. Valvium is not flammable but it can dissolve when being exposed to excessive amounts of heat, causing it to eventually cave in to its own heat as a form of collateral damage.

Compounds

In its refined form, valvium forms a powerful compound with water, creating steam that can be integrated into a primitive steam engine.

Geology & Geography

Valvium is found in abundance deep beneath the surface of Norheimsk and this also appears to be the only location where this ore is found. This allows it to have a fairly high market value.

Origin & Source

Although the exact origin of valvium is unknown, it is rumored that it is created by fossilized dragon remains who dominated Norheimsk three era's ago. Unfortunately, these creatures are all but extinct and those who are left are not talking.

Life & Expiration

When being exposed to excessive heat, valvium slowly starts to deteriorate. When constantly in contact with water, it heats up to 600 Kelvin and it will take at least three months to completely dissolve depending on the size of the valvium chunk being used.

History & Usage

History

When first discovered, valvium was left relatively untouched until Dwarven miners accidentally discovered its property to turn water into steam instantly, which led to a golden age of technological advancement for Dwarvenkind. The discovery of this property has been seen as the largest technological breakthrough since the discovery of Magicka. In the later years, especially the Empire has taken a great interest in Valvium to invent numerous military contraptions, and therefore are importing valvium by the masses.

Discovery

Valvium was first discovered in the dawn of the Third Era by Dwarven miners while its ability to boil water was only discovered decades later.

Everyday use

Valvium is often used in technological contraptions such as automated mining, airships and siege equipment.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Valvium has no cultural value.

Industrial Use

Valvium is refined in large foundries within the mountains of Norheimsk to unlock its full potential.

Refinement

Valvium can be used in its pure state, but when refined into ingots it accelerates and enhances the heating process tenfold while also adding to its durability significantly.

Manufacturing & Products

Aside from being applied to military contraptions, valvium is not being directly made into consumer products.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Valvium creates as of yet no known byproducts

Hazards

When being heated with water, valvium reaches temperatures up to 600 Kelvin. Logically, touching valvium in this state can be hazardous or even fatal.

Environmental Impact

Valvium has no significant environmental impact

Reusability & Recycling

Valvium is not renewable in any shape or form. When valvium is dissolved, it is completely gone.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Valvium is not available on the consumer market and only governmental bodies are able to acquire this material through legal ways. On some rare occasions, valvium is being sold illegally on black markets.

Storage

Valvium is being contained in isolated environments void of any traces of water to prevent any kind of chain reactions.

Law & Regulation

Due to its dangerous properties, valvium is illegal to own for consumers and only some militias own limited amounts of valvium.
