The Bloody Sword

The Grand Inn of Talvel's Point

Written by David_Ulph

As you make your way into the Bekkar Marketplace, on the right hand side one building sticks out amongst the rest. The Bloody Sword is an average size inn with chiselled stone walls going up a single storey and known best by the locals for it's good food and warm fire all at reasonable prices. Inside is slightly cramped, and brightly lit. The hygienic tables are a touch too close to the wall, and the bar area is the front of the kitchen, which doesn't seem to be a very efficient set up. The poor establishment is clearly in need of an extension to relieve the somewhat small chiselled stone tavern of its congestion issues. The inn is pretty packed with patrons, and it's difficult for you to find a seat.
The Bloody Sword, Talvel's Point's most popular gathering place for locals and outsiders is found just a few blocks from the main entrance. It functions as both a tavern and an inn that offers locally made ale and mead, good food, and a roaring fire all at reasonable prices. Anyone important that isn't a lord can be found here after dark. It's sign is of the Bleeding Sword Saga. The tavern is locally known for the variety of its ales and meads all brewed locally at the Zemtar's Meadery across the city.

Inside

The inn is a small but long two-storey timber and brick building, with a small fenced yard and a large cellar. Accommodation consists of a few medium and large rooms with beds fit for a king. Outside the inn but inside the small yard is what was once a rotting corpse but now just a skeleton, sitting down against the wall looking as though it is on watch. If someone asks about it, then the barkeep Kati will explain just that "he is waiting for someone" or to mind their own business. The door is covered in vines and painted leaves, to signify to customers that this is one of the few places in Talvel's Point that still sells wine, with some vines forming a patterns on the stone foundations.
The first floor holds the tavern. The main room of the tavern has four six-man tables, three four-man tables, and seven chairs that surround a hearth. In the back corner there is a small common room with two four-man and two-man tables and a personal fire. There are also two indoor privvies next to the common room on the way to the stairs down towards the cellar. Next to the stairs up to the second floor is a small hostel area where any regulars or family member of the publican can rest in one of six beds. On the bar table is a long candle with pins in, replaced every morning, to signify those inside what time of the day it is.
The second floor holds the inn which has twelve rooms and thirty-two beds. There are: three private rooms with a double bed in each; one room with two single beds; five rooms with three single beds; and three rooms with four single beds. Every room has a wash basin and at least one chair. There are two indoor privvies, one at each corner of the spacious main room.

Denizens

Publican Kati Junson

Kati is a short and plump, middle aged local woman. She is often commentated as scary looking and will stare at any newcomers to her establishment, completely distrusting magic users to the point of barring them entry. She is a terrible negotiator, extremely arrogant and oblivious to any outside events. She wears clean farmers clothes and has a small iron dagger next to her pouch just in case. While the income is steady at the Bloody Sword, Kati is content with selling her body to earn a small extra earnings every once in a while. In her youth, she was saved from prostitution by her now husband, the retired Watchman Havi Junson. Although happily married, he seems to have no problems with her behaviour as long as she avoids diseases and shares the money with him. Despite the open relationship, they genuinely do love each other.

Sorli Stonehammer

Sorli is a tall and strong Korg mercenary from Dawnsmarch. He wears his Morasof military chainmail and wields a Roghavern Battle Axe and a shield. He will often associate himself with fellow followers of Thodir who he will talk quietly with in a dark corner. Sorli was once a member of a Morasof Thane's Bodyguard that attacked the House Frost detachments in the Frostern Civil-War. When the Pack managed to push Imperial forces back to the River Starks, Sorli deserted to Talvel's Point to find solitude in membership of the Champions of Thodir at the Temple of Thodir.

Havli Junson

Havli is another Korg mercenary from Talvel's Point itself and is a retired City Watchman. He wears the City Guard gambeson and is armed with a locally smithed flail and a shield. He always drinks the storeroom almost dry every night and in his drunken state will be angrily ranting about the Great Western Empire, the current state of the City Guardsmen, and the overall lack of safety in the city to his rather uninterested but loving wife, Kati Junson. He lets her choose who she sleeps with, unlike a pimp; people who are too old, too ill, might be violent or are downright ugly are rejected by her. If someone did start hurting or manhandling her he would rush to her aid. Despite the open relationship, they genuinely do love each other.

Atrin Dagr

Atrin is an old and grey Frosian-born of Bludalfar descent. She wears lavish clothes but lives a simple life and has only aspired for two things in her life; the meaning of a strange prophecy she overheard by the local Wintersblood Seer, Sindri Utan; and to open a gambling establishment in her birthtown of Kor Bridge. However, she is currently content with playing cards and dice with travelling patrons to fund her early retirement.

Stannis Dandyliver

Stannis, usually known as Stan, is a Dagor living in the Dagor Town area of the city. When he was younger, he went to the Poetic College in Dagorland but was forced to leave after what he calls a "misunderstanding between himself, the headmistress and her husband". As a Glamour Poet-Bard, Stan sees himself as the perfect womaniser attempting to conquer everything that enters his line of view and Kati, who refuses his advances, only keeps him on because he is by far the best singer that has been heard in Talvel's Point for as long as anyone can remember.

Aeron

In front of the open fire sits Aeron, a mysterious figure to say the least. He is clearly of Coyedd origin, and the necklace around his neck signifies he might be connected to one of the many petty kingdoms in North Dagorland. Looking at his clothing of nobility and personal bodyguard, Regis, one may think he is an ambassador from a Coyeddic Kingdom but he is yet to truly explain who he is.
