The Laws of Terra

There is magic and mythology in this world, though only some still believe, where some are only familiar with magic and goddesses as rumor or legend.   Goddesses roam the world but disguise themselves in the fabric of ordinary life. A lucky few who have proved themselves across the eras have been deified and will occasionally offer guidance to those who are desperate or worthy.   Each community has a different relationship with the old gods and shows appreciation to nature in unique ways, and may be rewarded thusly.   The geography of the world has changed before due to the will of the goddesses. Some regions have become off limits, with an eerie fog covering coastlines. The western continent has seemed to distance itself from the mainland, and boiling bays and volcanic ash rain from the sky. Mountains appear taller, cliffs more jagged, waterfalls more treacherous. It's as if the land is intentionally trying to separate some people from others... but that's crazy... right?

Cosmology

The Serpent, Sea, Sun, and Moon lived in harmony on Terra. Each had gifts they brought to the world and shared their unique talents to make their home beautiful. Together, they created the first beings on Terra, including animals followed by Man. For a while, man lived with the four eternal beings, learning lessons and watching them shape the world.

Principal Geography & Features

Terra is a world much like our own with bio-diversity and different beauties on each continent.   Terra is made of the known lands and seas from the northern Brilliant Ocean to the southern Widows Sea. Terra is home to nine major kingdoms, beautiful sprawling farmlands, bustling merchant trading ports, humble villages, and honorable universities.    Some of Terra's standout geography include:
  • The aptly named Sun Plains is full of grasslands, rolling hills, small hamlets, and beautiful farmlands.
  • Icarria is bordered by the Crushing Mountains to the north, the Traders Gulf to the southwest, and the rocky and mysterious Black Cliffs to the southeast.
  • The Isles of Ennea is a tropical archipelago with a vibrant seafaring culture.
  • The small continent of Astrea with an icy and harsh terrain occupied by a surprisingly warm and respectful community.
  • An uninhabited continent exists to the west of Terra. There, according to legend, a mountain range was formed after the death of the Great Dragon of Terre eons ago. The lands are rocky and inhospitable to most life, especially due to the volcanic activity in the Dragon's Mouth Bay.

Initial Active Setting

The story is contained to a cluster of small continents and nearby islands. It is unknown whether these lands are alone in the world or if they are a small part of a much larger map.   Characters are limited to medieval-style travel, such as on foot, horseback, or by boat. Small canoes and kayaks exist near rivers and large sailing ships are commonly used near trading ports. The exception to this is in one kingdom, the Echo Kingdom, which is starting to use steam power for small conveniences and has recently invented the hot air balloon.   Many characters do not travel outside of their own regions, while a few adventurers, traders, academics, and others travel all over the continents and surrounding islands.
