Heyvus the Hoarder is an interesting
Ancient known for his insatiable obsession with collecting and preserving artifacts from the lost
Andron civilization. As one of the more passive Ancients, his actions have merely served as an inconvenience to historians, and occasionally resulted in the deaths of bold treasure-seekers, mercenaries, and
Wayfinders.
Etymology
Heyvus' Ancient name means History/Old Knowledge/Lost Knowledge in Morilanic. He chose this name to reflect his passion.
Appearance
The eyes of the Hoarder gleam with avarice, and elongated claw-like fingers— six on each hand— are particularly well-suited for handling his precious collection. His skin is a dull grey, pulled tight over his slender figure. Heyvus, unlike many Ancients, also managed to keep some of his human hair, in the form of a stark white beard, thanks to his old age before his transformation.
Abilities
Heyvus is endowed with formidable magical prowess, though is rather physically weak for an Ancient. He is skilled in spells of protection, concealment, and manipulation. His deep understanding of Andron culture, history, and magic makes him an unparalleled expert in identifying and authenticating artifacts from the lost civilization.
Transformation
As a human, Heyvus was a historian and researcher. He was particularly interested in the evolution of social culture, and often wrote his theories about how the city-states of his time each settled on their own unique cultures. Heyvus was a poor individual, living at the near-bottom of the economic ladder, but managed well enough to live a life he enjoyed, though often pushing off tasks that needed doing— such as reparations to his home and place of business— in favor of more research and categorization.
Heyvus became an Ancient after being touched by the rain of
Ancient Elixir as it leaked into his ramshackle library, dripping onto him as he wrote, twisting his passion into an obsession. Over centuries, his fascination with the study of his people's culture evolved into an obsessive need to collect and protect Andron artifacts.
Ancient Archives
Across Teralt, Heyvus has established numerous hidden vaults, each a treasure trove of Andron relics, including manuscripts, art, and weapons. Often, there are items of great value or significance stored within that are unrelated to the Androns, but that Heyvus has determined hold some historical value.
These vaults are fortified with magical wards, traps, and guardians, making them nearly impregnable. Yet still, the boldest Wayfinders, treasure seekers, and mercenaries do occasionally attempt— with the rarest of successes— to raid these archives.
Heyvus' drive stems from a complex mix of self-appointed duty as a preserver of Andron history and an almost pathological compulsion to control and own these artifacts. He views himself as the sole guardian of the Andron legacy.
