Lascaille

The Duchy of Lascaille spans the southwestern frontier of Othvarand, stretching from the rough shrublands northeast of the Gloaming Weald to the storm-battered edges of the Salt Coast. It is a land of worn ridges, scattered steads, dry wind, and enduring silence. Few would call it beautiful—but it endures, and that is its pride.

Duke Raudric Bemond rules from the town of Dauxmere, a fortified crossroads where stony uplands give way to wind-cut trails and overgrown Imperial roadbeds. The duchy’s soil is thin, its winters bitter, and its wealth lies in the skill of its many crafters. Many of the trade practices here trace their lineages back to the Imorean Empire. Banners are plain, oaths are old, and grudges are rarely forgotten.

Lascaille is a martial duchy, defined by its readiness. Raiders from the Weald, smugglers from the coast, and beasts from older, forgotten valleys have all tested its defenses, but few have breached them. The duchy’s does not revel in numbers, but its levies are significantly more trained than that of most other duchies.

Though it commands wide coastal territory, most of the duchy’s population and power is inland, clustered around hill-set villages, garrison towers, and trade roads that skirt the Weald's darker reach. The duchy supports the Archduke Edren Vaurant without flourish, and its voice in court is often a quiet one, but when called to war, Lascaille answers swiftly, and in full.
