Gremyr Manor
Four miles east of Larmes, perched like a scab on the chalk cliffs above the coast, stands the long-abandoned ruin known as Gremyr Manor. Built early on in the Othvarand Reclaimed period by a recluse alchemist, the estate is a place of rotted grandeur and whispered dread, avoided by fisher and farmer alike.
Once surrounded by walled gardens and well-tended fields, the land has since soured—nothing grows, nothing lingers. Even the winds shift strangely near the place, as if diverted by something unseen.
History
The manor was the seat of Egrist Gremyr, a known alchemist and suspected occultist who vanished decades ago. Officially, his death was never recorded, but most believed he cast himself into the sea after a series of humiliations produced by failed alchemical pursuits.
In the decades since, flickering lights, inhuman shrieks, and the occasional brave fool gone missing have kept the superstitions of Larmes alive. No proper claim has ever been made on the estate.
Common Belief
- Children dare one another to touch the gate. Most don’t.
- The cliffs beneath the house are rumored to hold a sea-cave, used by smugglers—or worse.
- The land surrounding Gremyr is prime farmland, yet has lain untended for nearly a generation.
Current Status
The Town Council of Larmes offers no official reward for dealing with Gremyr Manor, but more than one councilor would be quietly pleased if someone cleared the place or proved it harmless. They may not believe in ghosts—but they do believe in trade, and haunted coastlines don't attract coin.
