Council of Larmes

Larmes has no lord, no knight, and no high altar to rule it. Instead, it is governed by a five-member council, drawn from the town’s merchant families, ship captains, and elder tradesfolk. Known simply as “the Council”, they hold authority by tradition and quiet consensus rather than royal charter.

What power they have, they wield carefully—balancing Church expectation, coastal trade, and local survival in a place that’s never had the luxury of certainty.

Members and Reputation

The Council is known for being:

  • Pragmatic, often preferring quiet deals to public declarations.
  • Suspicious of outsiders, though willing to work with capable folk.
  • Divided—not by politics, but by fear: some fear change, others fear what lurks beneath the change they cannot stop.

While names change over the years, the current council includes:

  • Geren Callois, port-master, widely respected and deeply conservative.
  • Sevien Dorn, former smuggler turned trader, rumored to still keep old ties.
  • Brother Halan, representative of the Church of Holy Law—stern, humorless, but not without compassion.
  • Maelys Wynette, aging shipwright and the town’s unofficial historian.
  • Thyrien Quette, junior councilor, recently appointed, quiet and watchful.

Influence

  • The Council may hire adventurers—but has never done so formally.
  • They rarely act as one body. Decisions are slow, often driven by fear of scandal rather than justice.
  • Though the Church allows the Council to govern, there is rumor of an Iron Precept spy among their retinue.
