Belisse
Belisse is a small, salt-encrusted fishing town in the northern reaches of the Duchy of Brannach, perched hard against the wrath of the Stormwrack Sea.
Life here is a matter of endurance. The town’s main docks have suffered collapse after collapse, shattered by the endless battering of the tides and storms.
- Larger ships must anchor offshore, and goods are rowed in by skiffs, weather permitting.
- After a bad season, even the pier pilings vanish beneath the tides, leaving only slick stones and driftwood.
Despite its hardships, Belisse clings to certain proud traditions:
- The town is famed for its sour ales, brewed strong enough to last the long storm seasons.
- Squeeze-box music — jaunty, sharp, and often wildly off-key — drifts from taverns and wharfs, especially when the storms drive all hands ashore.
- A small Old Faith shrine dedicated to Varn the Fellstorm has somehow withstood the Church's occupation of the town.
Fisherfolk, wreck-scavengers, and quiet smugglers mingle here without much care for politics, so long as the nets come in full and the storms stay distant.
Belisse clings to the short like a drowning man to the splinters of driftwood. Should the sea ever remember its there, it'll crash down, drowning the whole damned lot.
