Session 22: Shark-slapping

General Summary

The party choose a second tunnel, ending up underwater where a spectral shark gave them a test of bravery: to swim through an underwater tunnel. Partway through, a pair of sharks came after the party. They were briefly distracted by Eirame tossing the spiced sandworm jerky that Rome had acquired from The Atheneum and by Doug creating an illusion of a dead dolphin, but the sharks weren't fooled, trying to bite the stragglers. Alden stood up to a shark, taunting it and even slapping its face, and Rome tried to distract the sharks away from her companions. Shadow used his psionic powers to pull his companions forward, saving Alden. Rome couldn't withstand the shark's teeth, however, but Viridian carried her friend out of the tunnel and brought her back to consciousness.
Returning to the central chamber's sundial, the party tried to rest under Doug's casting of Leomund's Tiny Hut, but someone accidentally bumping the sundial attracted the attention of a guardian spirit, a male Telnari druid who took the form of an elk. He told the party about the seven trials that all druids must pass through if they wish to descend to the lower chambers, and he named the five tests they had remaining: memory, repose, strength, observation, and survival. Asked about the snake trails and hoofprints, he stated that he'd seen a couple snakes bring three bull-like creatures down to the lower chambers, with one snake and one gorgon leaving later. The party rested around the sundial, waking the next morning to begin the remaining trials.
Choosing the next tunnel, the party found themselves in a jungle, where a giant spectral ape threw a rock at Viridian from a tree, very nearly knocking her unconscious, and then jumped down and challenged the party to defeat it in a trial of strength. Working as a group, the party quickly overwhelmed the ape, who deemed them worthy but refused their requests for it to heal them. The party returned to the central chamber once again, ready for their fourth trial.
