Eileithyia Ursanaa

Written by Nestor Alren

Mother and Governor of Dyodia

Eileithyia Ursanaa is the Governor of Dyodia and Matriarch of House Ursanaa. No one knows exactly how old she is. She is older than her husband, Prince Drew Tinscuil T'Ursanaa, whom she married over a hundred Feast Days ago, and while they both age quite slowly, as do most Nobles, her appearance today is that of a younger woman when compared to Prince Drew.   She is the known birthmother to two Ursanaas, her son having died under mysterious circumstances some decades ago. Her daughter, Briganna Ursanaa, is a renowned warrior. Eileithyia has five grandchildren.   She is a great leader of her people. As Mother of Dyodia (see Ordination of the Mother), Eileithyia has their heart and soul. They love and respect her, and any one of them would die for her if given the chance. They believe she is descended from the Ancient Ones, and it is rumored that she, and her bloodline, carry certain ancient abilities unspoken of today. As Governor, and prior to that Dyodia's ultimate ruler, she commands legions, and has successfully defended Dyodia from outside threats on every border.

Borders - Military History

While Alcides was busy piecing together and establishing the rest of Nemea, the Dyodians were fighting off invaders from the west. It is unclear who the invaders were. Some whisper of refugees fleeing constant war and seeking respite closer to the Niashard Sea. But certainly, if it had been refugees, Dyodia, and the Mother, would have taken them in. More likely, it was the barbarian hordes so often heard about. Despite how long ago it was, tales abound of Mother Eileithyia, clad in studded leather armor and her bearskin cloak, riding a huge, hairy coo, leading her armies into battle with her famous Rhadanthium staff, Lifebinder.   The area south of Dyodia, now known as The Lost Lands, was famous for tourist spots that featured hot springs, and other vacation destinations. Then one day, Alcides traveled to that land. He spent forty days there, and while he was gone, the Lost Lands changed. After he returned to Nemea, people who traveled there either disappeared, or reported horrific experiences. So-called monsters began to attack travelers along the border of The Prioni Mountains, a part of Dyodia. Eileithyia sent two of her generals and a couple of legions, including a handful of weapons experts, to work with The Tribes of the Prioni and establish a force that could push the "monsters" back.   While the barbarian hordes invaded from the west, and monsters to the south, marauders attacked to the north. They came by ship and pillaged villages along the coast of the Jade Sea. for as long as anyone can remember, Dyodia has had a wealth of resources, and the coastal villages so far from Greenhaven made prime targets. At first, the Dyodians attempted to police the Jade Sea coast from inland, but to no avail. Eileithyia came to the conclusion that they needed help, and recruited the support of Beleterra.

Diplomacy - Joining Nemea

Retaining Beleterra's assistance with protecting Dyodia's northern coastline from marauders was Eileithyia's first known step towards joining Nemea. Once Nemea was established, she certainly knew she would have to come to terms with it, since Dyodia's entire northern and eastern borders are coastline, and trying to defend against Beleterra and Myrea's well-established naval fleets would place Dyodia at constant risk.    Somewhere around this time, Eileithyia befriended Mikalos Tinscuil. With his assistance, she negotiated with The Divine Duality, and came to an agreement by which Dyodia would join the rest of the Kingdom of Nemea. Dyodia would become a province, with Eileithyia as Governor, and allowed to select their own Governor moving forward. They would be required to follow the purity and separation laws, which Eileithyia was not happy with. However, with the assistance and support of the Dyodians, she established a social caste known as the Dedicated, which allowed the letter of those laws to be followed without needing to own people. Moreover, she ensured that Dyodian Tradition, while still maintained, would not flaunt their differences from the Divine Duality. She also agreed to take a husband from the Tinscuil family, once a suitable one was available.

Personal Qualities

Eileithyia Ursanaa is a complex person. She is at once ancient and young, stern and beautiful, wise and witty. She maintains key friendships with King Mikalos and the enigmatic Cadone Astor, whose natural talents allow the Governor and King to stay in close contact no matter their location, and without the need for sending messages that risk interception. She has a strong sense of morality that has led to Dyodia remaining a skuli-free province to this day. No person who sets foot in Dyodia is allowed to be owned by another.

Hi there! You may not know me, but I am the sponsor of the Great Leader of Their People Summer Camp Prompt this year! Since you wrote this article, I would like to know, would you mind me reading it aloud on my Twitch channel this week? I have a lot to get through so it helps to do it live while people watch. I've scheduled to go live at 8am and 8pm Eastern Time every weekday. If you join and comment, I can go over your article right then and there! If you'd like to coordinate a specific date, let me know. If you aren't able to make it (or don't want to be present live), you can also always watch streams after the fact on my YouTube channel   BUT, if the answer is NO because you'd rather I not, it's okay! Not agreeing to be streamed definitely does not put you at any disadvantage for winning in my eyes. Please respond swiftly by replying here (make sure to click REPLY under my comment or I won't be notified), message me on my World Anvil profile page, Discord, or anywhere else you find me online.   Thanks again! Whatever you choose, God bless and much success! <3
