The main road from the interior of the Kingdoms, this mountainous pass is a geographical gift to travelers. It is an almost perfect travelling route, with food and water aplenty ot forage, and weather that is protected from turning overharsh by the mountains on all sides. In fact, it is almost always 64°F at the bottom of the ravine.
While the roadway is in and follows a ravine, it is still elevated from sea level by quite a lot, hence the rather unimaginative name.
The High Road is the artery that connects all of the outlying rustic villages in the Middle Kingdoms, which all have paths and roadways that lead to,and or, from it. The roads have such places spread out at intervals along the way in the Heartlands. Private homes and businesses are spread out throughout the forests and mountains. The area is quite safe, and the entrepenurial spirit that this has engered is evident every time one comes across a homestead; they are all selling something, from tea and food to scrolls and potions. People will leave eggs out on a table, with a cash box to collect the money...or loaves of bread.
Everybody has a garden, but farming out here is quite rare. Clearing the land is exceptionally difficult, and the forest reclaims cleared land at an aggressive rate. The people of the area have found it much simpler to live with and alongside the forest, as opposed to trying to tame it. The mountainous terrain is rugged and beautiful.
The High Road is built within a natural pass through the Feynorian Mountains.
It has a very diverse system of cyclical flora and fauna, which has been studied so thoroughly by the world famous Bardic College in Greynor.
Winter, spring, summer, and fall.
Interestingly, a famous bard wrote an even more famous song about the beautiful and predictable weather in the Haertlands. The song is about the song writer's indescribably deep love for a presumably beautiful woman, and details the different weather anomalies that he would brave to be with her.
It is either sunny and pleasant, rainy and cool, or overcast with a soaking fog so thick it is often safer to just spend the time at a Roadhouse until it passes.
