The Garum Organization in Tellus | World Anvil

The Garum

The Garum are the largest political faction in The Cerulean Empire. In the most basic terms, the party's political views align with those of the Emperor, and the party's leadership has worked hard to make sure that remains the case.Gaius Politanus has led the party now, very successfully, for almost fifty years.
Politanus is a career politician who, while generally blind to the plight of the lower classes, actively has the best for the Empire at heart...he just wholeheartedly believes the success of his party is what is best for the Empire. This very often blinds him to smaller social wounds that tend to fester into societal discord.
The Garum believe that a strong leader means, de facto, a strong nation. They are very authoritarian, preferring to tell and be told what to do, than to have to think too much on their own. Tradition and the ponderous pendulum of populism rule the Garum roost, and they are not unhappy with their lives.   The senators make a great deal of money trading on the State Commodities Market, and taking bribes from lower level dignitaries who try like proverbial hell to look more important than they really are.
The Garum maintain control through a tried-and-true recipe of misinfoprmation and fearmongering, believing that the general populace need to be protected from much of the information available to those who seek it. To this end, they have convinced the general populace that seeking too much knowledge about political affairs is non grata.
