Sgàineadh Settlement in Tellus | World Anvil

Sgàineadh

Far out upon the glass of Glaine Cuan there is an anomaly. A lone scar upon the otherwise smooth skin of the Open Glass, a hole has been punched up and out of meters thick crystal, exposing the cool dirt and clay of Tellus below. There is seeping water, and shelter from the murdering sun, and as such, life has come to flourish, there, in one of the most unlikliest and inhospitable places imaginable.
Discovered by Myra at some point in the deep and distant past, it was she who developed the caves surrounding the central crater into a haven for those few of the Singers-pacifists by nature as well as nurture and philosophy-whose life experiences caused them to question themselves and their way of life. Resigned to never simply stand by and die, or to watch their people stand by and die, the order of the Tchamut was born.

The Tchamut still were, and are, Singers at heart, worshipping peace and the concepts of love and acceptance. Becoming a monastic order non pareil, they have taken oaths of protection, however, and nuetrality in their role as arbiter of social disputes. It is a singular and sacred honor to be chosen as a Singer Tribe's Tchamut. It is an even greater honor to be chosen as Arbiter for the Tribes. At any given point, there are seven chosen Tchamut, with seven disciples, living with the seven itinerant tribes of Singers. These tribes, or septs, make a quasi-septennial pilrimmage to Sgàineadh, where they stay in what many would consider luxuriant comfort, far out and under the glass.   The open shaft around which the town is built is quite deep before even the first of the rooms begin to split off into the hard packed clay and dirt beneath the hundreds-of-feet-thick skullcap of the glass sea. At the very bottom, a lush oasis springs out of the ground, proving without a doubt the tenacity of life. The bottom "ring" of the structure, known as "the farm" due to the oasis, is the only consistantly occupied settlement in Glaine Cuan. There is groundwater, and romantic cave walks full of glowing fungi that give off spores which encourage a very subtle sense of well being.

Demographics

Statistically they are entirely human, although there are plenty of half elves and more than a few gnomes.

Government

It is a Theocrassy based on the teachings of Myra. If one were to think "hippie commune" meets "Llank-Ryu" temple, one would not be far from the mark.

Infrastructure

The rooms and complexes were all hollowed out due to the explosion of a gas bubble when the sea of glass was formed many thousands of years ago, when the Travelers (including Myra), fought off the primordial known as Annihilation, and fell to Tellus, the force of their impact forming the Sea of Glass, Glaine Cuan.

Districts

It is broken up roughly into quadrants, with directions being given in compass bearings and time, but there are no real "districts" to Sgàineadh.
