Gendal Myth in Teel | World Anvil

Gendal

Gendal is a fictional sea monster that appears in several old Juru narratives. The Black Teeth of Gendal cliffs are named after the enormous beast that lives in the Ago Sea.

1. Attributes

  • The true form of Gendal appears to be whale- or crocodile-like, some say that they look more like a giant frog-fish.
  • Their total size is supposed to reach more than 50 kilometers from head to tail.
  • Most sources describe the beast as male or epicene, though it is a singularity on the planet.

2.1 Origins

  The Dark Waves of Gendal
When the Cauldron once erupted about 850 years ago and the magma chamber of the volcano collapsed, it says that something enormous disentangled itself from the deep underground. Whatever came from the pyroclastic hell beneath avoided the light and disappeared into the Ago Sea before the panic-stricken Juru could recognize it within the thick black fume of the Cauldron.   The monstrosity gorged and it grew. Some superstitious people still fear them when they let the eye wander over the Ago Sea – they say that Gendal tried to swallow the whole peninsula several times in the past and some day he will return, big enough to accomplish his feast. Since the black rock formations in the eastern Black Teeth of Gendal region undeniably evoke the association of huge teeth drawn into the land, the myth of Gendal is most widely believed to be essentially true.
