Island Ferries

Mortals need to get around too!

A young man stood at the side of the Andaikan Ferry to Western Shikahn, leaning on the railing and watching the water splash against the edge of the ship. He looked tired, and a little pale, though he perked up with a small smile when a young woman in a Hunter uniform stepped up beside him.   "We should be in Shikahn in a few hours," She said, watching him carefully. "Next stop is...?"   "Rahnik." He replied, stretching. "We'll have to find some warmer clothing, I think our destination is fairly far north..." He looked to the woman, smiling tiredly. "How do you like the Ferry, Aya?"   There was silence for a moment before Aya offered a tiny reply. "A lot better than the last ship."   The young man's burst of laughter caught them a few stares.
Island Ferries are the main form of transport between the smaller island chains surrounding the continents of Tarin. Depending on where the ships were manufactured, the ships may have different stylistic choices. Crenian ferries tend to be sleek, stylish and metallic, while Andaikan ferries are typically made of wood.   Some Ferry routes are daily occurrences, such as travel between Andaikos and Shikahn. Some, are less common due to the length of the travel, such as traveling around the edges of Kitain to avoid walking through the Karhan desert. The most famous Ferry travels between the volcanic islands controlled by Nissayria, before travelling to Laios and back.

Power Generation

Ferries are propelled by a system containing abandoned Shoni Crystals, making them analogous to enormous Crystal Constructs. The system utilizes runes along with water, fire, and air stones to produce clean steam power in order to achieve power.

Propulsion

Similarly, propulsion is created via utilizing the steam to turn large propellers which in turn move the ferry forward. Additional water shoni crystals are embedded in the backs of the ferries to allow for precision turning and greater control over the ships movement. Most ferries won't sail unless a Shonia aligned with the element of water is present and able to assist if the ship gets itself into a tricky situation.
