Tiras Character in Tarien | World Anvil

Tiras

The Velvet Mistress

Tiras (Tee-ras), god of the night, is another of the original gods to emerge from the ether and create the lands of Tarien . She is the consort of Anderi, even though they are constantly at odds. She appears as a sultry, pale woman with jet black hair. Her skin is pale, and she dresses in a nightgown of black silk.

Tiras does not have the following that the God of Light does - indeed she is often feared. Her power is, however, evident. She owns the dark half the day. Under her cloak, the world sleeps, conspires, and skulks. Peasants pray for her blessing before sleep, and those who thrive in the dark pray to her for their own purposes.

History/Relationships

It is said that Tiras emerged from the eternal darkness of the night itself, and took it to be her domain. She is among the eldest of the gods, and had a hand in the creation of Tarien. As an elder, she has mothered many of the other gods, deities, and the occasional mortal. Tiras is the traditional consort to Anderi, and her priesthood is often at odds with his.

Dogma

Tiras’ priests hold dominion over the darkness, especially the dark of night.

Church/Priesthood

The priesthood has few true temples, but many shrines, generally in the rear of Anderi’s churches. They tend to shrines, bless events, and conduct ceremonies in celebration of darkness.

Her priests wear black cloaks with a silver half moon cloak pin.
"Of course I know nothing of the Society of the Sacred Shadow. They are not true followers of the Velvet Lady, but rather a ragtag group of miscreants playing dress up."
