Never a strong Emir, Shazar had little control over the various bands of Dharja that roamed the great deserts of Carboth. In fact, many of the dervishes that served him often spoke - softly of course - that he was not enough of a man to satisfy his entire harem. These rumors came, of course, from his tendency to always seek his comforts in the arms of the unnaturally tiny Mari Danvul who, more often than not, eschewed her duties by falling into a trance induced by her god, Fahrom.
What it was then that possessed the Emir to scar his own royal cheeks to resemble the strange woman's drawings, none can ever say. Perhaps it truly was divine intervention, for once so scarred, the Findiir himself became a zealot of Farhom. As his own religious beliefs grew so to did his confidence and he ruthless consolidated his power, strangling hundreds of potential rivals with his own hands and enacting a decree that caused the scarring of Dharja for nearly two centuries. And though their self-mutilation eventually fell out of favor, the fervor in the deserts for Fahrom became a critical unifying factor in their wars with the Empire of Eldoria.
