Horseshoes and Sabres

More a collection of notes and journal entries that a proper guide, this now seminal military guide wasn't published until over century after its author's death. While cleaning out an old barn on an small estate in central Zennon, an aging baron discovered trunk filled with various riding implements, an old sabre, and a number of scrolls and two small books. Squinty at the tiny handwriting, he was amazed to find that the scrolls bore the signature of Hans Zantak. With the wounds of the General's insurrection still fresh in Zennon, he wisely packed everything back away.

Three summers later, he passed the trunk on to his son, now a member of the cavalry, who was heading south, guarding a diplomatic mission bound for Yaty. The trunk fetched a fair price in Yaty and changed hands several times before arriving in Karradone and into the hands of the Military History Program at the University of Karradone. After a brief period of authentication, the department agreed to assemble the documents into a publication and completed their work in 361 AC.

While officially outlawed in the Zennon, the book is hugely popular with Cavalrymen. It details everything one needs for the art of war on horseback: hit and run tactics, archery techniques while riding, care of horses, and more. So comprehensive is the work that it is a mandatory part of the curriculum at the War College of Gartcha, even fr naval officers. More controversially, however, the publication includes how to inspire leadership among troops and the populace to the point when one can usurp a king. Militarily leaders recognize the value of such leadership but monarchies are, obviously, nervous about its ramifications.
