Esmee the Enflamed

Martyr

Esmee was neither wealthy nor powerful and known to few in her brief life. Reportedly a mousy haired girl, she was a mere thirteen summers when her magical talents first manifested, saving her mother from a falling rafter with a mystical shield as their small cottage on the outskirts of Geyla burned. No one knows whether or not the girl had caused the fire, but word of the manner of the rescue invariably twisted the story into one where the young sorceress was the villain. She was quickly taken into custody - despite protests from her family - and sentenced to exile. In the Galencian fashion, she was of her belongings other than a warm blanket and dull knife, and deposited deep into the Rheuthengage Mountains to face certain death by starvation, exposure, or worse.

Three moons later Esmee appeared, dressed in robes of the finest ermine, on the steps to the Cathedral of Arimathica, demanding justice. Within an hour she had gathered quite the crowd in the square beneath the Geyla's glorious monument to the Breath of Life. With a gesture and a word she called down a pillar of fire, immolating herself and sparking a blaze in the grand cathedral that would eventually render it to ashes.
