Free Militia Sergeant
Like many others in the Free Militia , Edwyn has been lifted out of the working class by his strong sword arm, sharp eyes, and willingness to follow orders. His patron, the young Paolo Wright, both purchased his commission and houses him in a manner far beyond that his modest salary would allow. Combined with the fact that he has become a drinking partner with the young aristocrat, Edwyn's loyalty is to Paolo first, the Wright's second, and Rathgar last. Some his fellow soldiers - especially those with more winters behind them - have warned the young Sergeant that the Wrights represent the lower caste of the of city's elite and that young Paolo is sure to bring him trouble. As long as the silver flows, however, Edwyn will nothing of it.
A sergeant in the Free Militia, Edwyn owes his loyalty to the Wrights, who purchased his commission - and to young Paolo specifically, who keeps him lodged, fed, and well watered with wine. A fair swordsmen, he might show promise in the militia if his social obligations don't get in the way.
