Vergilt Connighclan

Though merely a sworn banner clan and not a true Protectorate, Clan Vergilt with their modest land holdings and modest estate population, hold political sway nearly on par to those six high clans. Then again, you would pay them that much heed too, were you in any of those great chief's positions. Why? Because the Suranthi mint and Central Bank both operate out of Gildarak, and are run by the Vergilt Clan. One doesn't need to hold all that responsibility and reputation for great sweeping decrees, deeds or innovation to have that sort of clout. Not if one controls the money. And with the abundance of valuable metals, ores, and minerals in the region, and its well developed and efficient mining industry, well, Clan Vergilt very much controls the purse-strings of Suranth.

Geography

CITIES/TOWNS:

Gildarak (11809): The regional seat of power for the Vergilt clan, this city is a bustling business center, a place of great wealth. The Suranthi Central Bank was born here and its head office and treasury is held here, along with the Suranthi National Mint being based here, that is the nation of Suranth's currency is quite literally minted here. As such, no one should be surprised to learn that there is a larger than normal for a city of this size police presence, as well as a notable military presence. It is also a place known for being a center of learning for the young business minded. The Gildarak Institute of Economics and Business is a well known and respected college, offering all manner of training for its students from Accounting and Book-Keeping, to a formal Law education in Economic and Business Law, complete with a prestigious degree and licensing to practice law all across the Tundra Realms of Suranth. All of this is topped off by the Gildarak Mineral and Metal Exchange, a massive marketplace that makes up most of the dock district, and sees massive trades for metals, minerals, and gems closed daily that can range into the area of a hundred Gold Suns quite regularly, so much so that you don't even hear about such trades. For it to be news worthy, or even conversation worthy amongst those whom are in the industry in and around Gildarak and Mineral Bay, such a transaction needs to move into the range of several hundred Gold Suns, at that point it is a conversation piece. All this, of course explains the heavy police presence, as, with this much coin, valuables, artworks (as many of the city's rich are collectors of this or that in some fashion), rare books, etc has seen a definite rise in those of...lesser means turning to....less legal methods of acquiring wealth. Some even suggest that Gildarak is the home base, and birthplace of the fabled Suranthi Sun-Snatchers, a shadowy rumor, an urban legend, the idea of a country wide 'Guild' for thieves. Naturally as with all urban legends, there is some truth. They likely do exist, but do not control all such crime as robbery and theft all over Suranth. More they likely have hands in a....controlling interest....of the 'industry' of such things. Though again, this is considered taboo discussion, or the gossip of those whom have read to many romantic crime novels.

Eorathpis (8371): This busy port town doubles as the head of operations for the gem and jewel market, the reason for which is quite obvious. The town is built into the base of a mountain, and the mines within it are rumored to be notably rich in lesser grade precious stones, garnets, malachite, and the like, used in jewelry by the middle and upper class, but also are noted to have viable and modestly high quality deposits of various manna gems, though they are not said to be of any sort of monstrous size, but regardless of this, this port town is another wealthy town for the upper and middle class, even those whom work the mines. The discrepency comes when looking from middle to lower class and the poor. It is a town with a clear quality of life division instead of a normal sloped hierarchy pattern in the quality of life versus socio-economic class curve. In the case of Eorathpis, the curve is very steep, the gap between lower class and middle class being quite large.

Tin Cove (4306): A rather poor and middle class industry town, where a tin mine and the jobs on the docks, as the largest mainland port in the Mineral Bay area, are the dominant 'opportunities' for those needing income and work. It is a crossing point, not the resting point for any of the high end markets, minerals, or ores. The few members of the towns 'upper crust' make their wealth off majority interests in shipping companies, the tin mine the town is built upon and by, and of course, very likely, a little bit of financial corruption, though you'd best not say so too loudly. Crime is also rampant here, but not the higher class of crime like in Eorathpis or Gildarak, skilled thieves whom take pride in the idea of being the unseen untraceable charming roguish devil. No its less high class society criminals here and more....violent. More smash and grab. More mob and gang based violence, protection rackets and general corrupt behavior.

Kel'vain Garrison (2904): This town though prominent, is not a true urban center like most, they are just growing. Its a bit of urban living and security, with rural familiarity. The big reason for this of course, is that the town rose around what it gets its name from. A large and busy Suranthi Naval Fort. As such, one should expect a very military driven economy and local dynamic for business and well...any sort of job opportunities. Outside of actually serving in the Navy, likely 40% or so of other 'civilian' job opportunities are directly or indirectly tied to the Garrison and the Navy. While not providing massive wealth, this does provide a unique stability not found in most other places in the region, while still offering decent wealth and quality of life. You won't be rich, but you can live well and securely here.
