Storm Father Níosgruam Axe-hand Árthachmac

Storm Father Níosgruam Árthachmac (a.k.a. Axe-Hand)

None truly know this dwarf's age though he is known to be at least as old as High King Cormac still possesses the look of his youth, with the only true show of age his beard of silvery grey. His hair is the vibrant sandstone red that it has always been, to hear High King Cormac tell it.. He is the Archbishop of Sir Kartheart's Cult, known as the Storm-Father. He is one of the High King's most trusted advisors and confidantes besides his own family. His duties and job in managing the faith include all manner of affairs, internal buecracy of the church, the funds and 'donations' the organizing and tracking of the various Ords, and many other administrative details. He has the look, keeping himself prim, proper, looking the part of a priest and well spoken leader and logistically well versed in commerce and social graces, as well as known for excellent people resource management.

One could be forgiven for not thinking him to have a history worthy of his nickname. Yet he stood beside High King Cormac in many battles to reclaim parts of Suranthi land for her people, and carved out his reputation amongst the brave and bold tundra dwelling folks both within the faith and citizenry, with his prowess whilst wielding a battle-axe. Niosgruam himself is unsure of his year of birth, and took the name of the last High Priest, whom adopted him off the streets of Nightvale, for he was an orphan. He was adopted by the dwarf whom held the title he now does before him, and in honor of the man, Noisgruam took Arthach's name for his last name. Arthachmac. Joined the church and has always been unquestionably devout and devoted to his faith and his people, the Suranthi.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Niosgruam is build thick like a white bear, and this is an apt and oft used comparison. Some would foolishly call him fat, though very quickly after that they would learn a hard lesson, for he is unafraid to call someone out. He walks with a noticable limp on his left side, acquired almost two centuries ago, when his knee was managled fighting side by side with High King Cormac, courtesy of the orc warlord Morvik the Mutilator.

Body Features

He is...comfortable now, and though his physique is still there, one can tell that he has had decades of fine dining, good drink, and rest. He is strong as a bear, but has the padding to match. He is no longer the active service sort, no longer one who has gone on campaign after campaign. His left leg has a notable limp, but he seems not to feel any pain from. He has notable scars, few if any tattoos.

Facial Features

His face is wrinkled now, notable in its age, the skin leathery. His eyes, a soft loamy brown, his hair kept short, for if not, it tries to curl and become...as he would say "Madness in 'air form" Its sandstone red color still vibrant and very much alive, His beard is kept mid length in a very specific pattern, cut at angles to peak at the bottom in the middle, his beard having turned silver, which is an odd and unique look with his vibrant hair color.

Special abilities

Niosgruam is known as one of the most favored of the Cult, and seems to have Sir Kartheart's weight fully behind him, and has for centuries. His prayers are oft gifted with answers through his life, and the tales of the happenings, the great miracles his prayers seemingly call upon are things of story and local legend.

Apparel & Accessories

Niosgruam is easily recognizable in public life for his honorary garb. Fine layered silk and wool robes of ocean blue, with stone grey sleeves. The trim and highlights done in gold and silver instead of snow white. Upon the back of these robes, the Kartheartian Church's insignia, the Glacial Spear, with a boar's head overlayed upon the haft of the weapon. He is never seen without his favorite tome of scripture, The Hymns of Valor on his person, kept in a special pouch upon his belt. He carries no visible weapon in his day to day life anymore, though that is not an entirely honest view. He uses a solid oakwood walking cane with a simple polished steel head for the grip. The hefty piece can do some damage, and Niosgruam has been known to not be adverse to such....extra-curricular activities.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Not a whole lot is known about his personal history before he ends up within the clergy and fighting beside High King Cormac. A Suranthi by birth-right, but an orphan in Nightvale, whom was taken in by the religious leader whom would raise him, and whom's position he would eventually step into.

Education

He was given a classical religious education, but due to his connection with the eventual High King and his clan, and their close friendship, that classical education was sprinkled with wider cultural exposure and a grittier real world education in war and in statesmanship over the centuries.

Employment

He has always been tied directly to the church. He has been a priest, and in times when needed, acted quite effectively as a war-priest of his faith. For the last two centuries and counting he has been the Storm Father of Sir Kartheart's religion, the member of the cloth whom is entrusted to direct the insituition of the church itself within its hierarchy. Only he can initiate the process to alter how the Cult interepts the meanings of any part of holy texts or scriptures, a power he is entrusted with by the nature of that position, and one that he has never used up to this date.

Accomplishments & Achievements

In 1344 SuD Niosgruam was officially sworn in as a High Priest of the Kartheartian church. From this position of moderate authority, he built himself up through both debate and deed, campaigning with his High King, adding still more notches to his battle-axe, whilst also being vigorously involved in the affairs of religions and politics in the church and the cult as a wider whole. Religious law, policy, practices at mass, along with governmental affairs and of course, rubbing shoulders with the mythic Storm Lancers, and having some level of knowledge of how they operate and their directives.

in 1399 SuD Arthach the Wise, the Storm Father of the Cult, dies. In 1401, after two years of deliberation, prayer, and seeking wisdom in private debates and meetings, the assembled High Priests finally agree on whom should take the mantle of Storm Father, whom it is that Sir Kartheart wills into this most holy of roles. Niosgruam 'Axe-Hand' Arthachmac was named Storm Father in 1401, and has held the position.

Intellectual Characteristics

Niosgruam is a savvy, booksmart individual, and is well read above and beyond what one might first expect for such a religious figure. That however was born of political and social necessity, not just interest. Niosgruam is well versed in all manners of broad topics, like basic economics, legislation, and he is a font of basic knowledge, having perused the Armory's vast libraries, and continuing to do so, as a hobby and challenge unto himself. It is his goal to read at least half the material in the great libraries of the Armory before he dies, and that is half the material on every given subject and topic. Despite being a religious insituition, the sheer broad scope of the Armory's written works is rivaled only by the combined libraries of the Magister's Collegiate and the Stormcrasher Tower.

Social

Contacts & Relations

High King Cormac Ironcliffe: He is one of the most trusted advisors, and oldest friends to the current High King.

Lancer-Commander Morgrym Ironcliffe: As the head of the Storm Lancers, Morgrym and Niosgruam interact quite often and have an excellent relationship. The longstanding friendship between Niosgruam and Morgrym's father definitely helped foster this, as one might expect.

Religious Views

His religious views are tied directly to the Kartheartian Church's current doctorine and religious law as an insituition, and they are seen, with good reason, as one of the same. He holds his personal values close to the vest, knowing he represents the entirety of the Church as an instiution, so if he does have a difference of view in regards to how one interprets some part of scripture, or a passage within a holy text, he keeps it to himself, instead trying to guide discussions amongst the clergy and the scholarly towards looking at said passage or scripture again, hinting but never stating his views. He does not wish to dictate the faith.

Social Aptitude

Niosgruam is well known as a confident, honest, approachable individual with good sense, an outgoing personality, and a sharp wit.

Wealth & Financial state

He is very well off, though notably, he officially has no 'personal wealth' as he and the church are interconnected, seen as one and the same.
