Mal Aspen
Mal is a swashbuckler rogue with a pirate background.
She was part of the crew of The Carrion until 828CE, when the ship was wrecked in a freak storm. She was discovered floating on a piece of driftwood by passing ship and rescued. She spent many months searching for her missing crew, eventually settling on Tolsta, where she roomed with a halfling bard called Owlitt.
Immediately prior to the The Days of Darkness she met Agnes Silverbrand, Aranevae 'Nev' Dardian and Reina Kerdar, beginning her association with what would become The Folly.
Early Life
Mal was born Merenwen Vard, in in a small village just outside the large port town of Doro in the kingdom of Maril. She does not have much memory of living here, what little she has she remembers as being happy enough, but boring. Her mother was kind and loving, but often distant. She never met her elven father.
Aged around 7 she joined her maternal uncle Eldon Vard's merchant ship. She served as basically her uncle's personal slave. The ship carried a mixture of legitimate and stolen goods, and when they stopped in ports, even their home port, Mal was locked inside.
When Mal was around 13 The Carrion attacked the ship and murdered many of the crew (though not her uncle). They took all the cargo and Mal along with it.
