Rán Character in Tales of Justice | World Anvil

Rán

During the long - and to some overly-extended - cold war with the Kryptonian Empire, tensions within the undersea nation of Atlantea grew high. This eventually caused a rumble of discontent among both the general citizenry and a few of the Atlantea noble houses. Most talked of ways to convince either King Orin or Queen Mera to find a way to end the conflict. But there is always that one highly ambitious soul that believes they can - and deserve - to do a better job than whomever is on the throne at that moment.   In this case, her name is Rán.   Rán is descended from a woman who was the inspiration for the mythological sea goddess by the same name. In legends, Rán was a temperamental goddess who sought to catch those who went to sea in her net. The ones caught were drowned and then became one of her retainers in her watery halls beneath the waves.   This Rán does use a net, but isn't so interested in drowning anyone who goes to sea. Instead, she prefers to recruit them to her way of thinking. Humans, Atlanteans, she doesn't discriminate since she considers the Atlantean edict of keeping hidden from humans rather outdated.   In general, her goal is simple. Rán believes that King Orin already has too much to manage what with Atlantea still slowly growing, not to mention she considers Orin a flagrant egotist. So the best course - in her opinion - is to set up her own independent undersea nation to show the Atlanteans just how to properly manage a kingdom. One that even includes humans, once they learn to cooperate.   She has followers, both Atlantean and human, but to her dismay no kingdom. Her biggest drawback is resources, which she had been siphoning off from Atlantea ... that is until that whole mess with the Orinsons ... Prince Thundarr "Thunderstrike" and his brother Loki. But ... with them out of the way ... it might open a few doors for her.
