Fright

Fright

The being or entity that is known as 'Fright' is a species known as a shogamorph. The shogamorph species isn't native to Earth or even the dimension of Earth Prime. Fright, like any other of his species, originate from the Earth-12 dimension.   On a routine trip to Earth to deal with a gorgon outbreak, Fright's ship was blown off course by a freak ion storm. Once passing through the storm, he found himself crashed in Earth's Antarctic wastes where the intense cold placed him in a state of suspended animation.   Little did Fright realize that the ion storm was a temporary stargate that blew him through space and time back to the early 1100s.   Fright was 'discovered' by a scientific expedition to the Antarctic in 1984 and brought back by Ruben Stone. Stone confided in a professional acquaintance, Dr. Peter Russell about his findings. Russell, being a student of supernatural and cryptid research was entranced, believing Fright to be one of the mythical 'Shoggoth'. Unfortunately, Dr. Russell was unstable, in a disagreement, he accidentally did away with his associate. In his instability, Russell believed himself to be some type of 'sorcerer'.   Using connections with the criminal underworld, Russell would kidnap victims for his sorcery, leaving Fright to absorb the remains. Over time, Fright had been regenerating the near-lethal damage from both ion storm and induced cryosleep. It was enough that Fright realized what he was doing.   Taking matters into his own pseudopods, Fright attacked Dr. Russell, bringing an end to the madman's reign of terror.   Fright suffers from a traumatic version of amnesia coupled with PTSD over what Dr. Russell had him do. In a form of penance, Fright moves among the criminal element - sometimes taking on the appearance of the long-deceased Dr. Russell - looking to bring down the infrastructure that supported and encouraged crimes and criminals like Dr. Russell.   It was during these vigilante activities that Fright encountered the Wyldfire team. Seeing like-minded individuals he moved from the now long-abandoned house in Suicide Slum ( that was later to be bought by The Shadow ) to work and live with the Wyldfire team.   He's most often in the company of Sleet or Mime who became fast friends due to shared trauma in their past.
Fright's role when it's not Superhero Time is ... well, he's ... you see ... uh. Okay, it's like this ....

I double-dare you to ask her (or him) about the time he (or she) learned how a shotgun works.
— Silverwing to Nomad ( who flat refused )

... maybe an alien from outer space. Or maybe he's the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
— Feral trying yet again to explain Fright.

Early characterization highlights:
In an Intergang front pretending to be a big box department store, Fright takes on a disguise and comes bounding over the product shelves. He has a stun blaster weapon in each hand, the triggers of which he holds down until the batteries run dry.
Frosted Lucky Charms ... I''ll blow your ass to pieces!
--
Fright-as-Sigourney Weaver sits peacefully at the kitchen table with these new Wyldfire teammates. Fright-as-something-else phases through all walls separating the school library from the kitchen. The two pieces of Fright merge together into a single, slightly bulkier form. They blink a few times while recalibrating.
So that's how a shotgun works!!
— Fright creeps the rest of Wyldfire out on their second night in residence
