Wardenclyffe

Abandoned.

The facility has recently been evacuated by the Vigil. It is currently without power, and none of the defensive systems are operational. The Hospital and Workshops have been stripped of equipment. While the flight deck elevators remain in place, without power, only the top levels of the starport are accessible. The city shield generator has also been de-installed. The central landing pad is currently non-operational as a series of large plates have been removed from the platform and stacked nearby. This was done to remove two large reactors and their containment housings from below the starport.

Vigil Embassy/Planetary Headquarters

Originally an abandoned and undeveloped starport on the western wall of The Hub, the Western Starport has been effectively completed, modernized, and fortified due to the efforts of the Vigil Compact (Republic). While much has been speculated about their role as an organization on Nigita and within the Inner Rim and Expansion Regions, none can argue the positive impact on the planet.

Wardenclyffe, as the facility is now named, is a combination military base, medical facility, droid service workshop, and full service A-Rated Starport. With the provisional government of Nigita still struggling for funding and repairs to the aging Imperial Infrastructure, the Vigil's facility is by-and-large providing the lion's share of planetary defenses for the city. With varying ranges of anti-ship batteries, constant orbital-to-air patrols, and now defensive Planetary Ion Batteries (brought online in the wake of the Zygerrian attack just three months into 35 ABY), Wardenclyffe is easily as defended as the original Imperial Base that became The Hub.

Facilities

The complex is comprised of three separate facilities, each comprised of one or more of the original starport's terminal buildings.

Trauma Center (Terminal Aurek)

This 250 bed facility is a fully Core Worlds Red Sigil Certified medical center. With dozens of highly trained organic and synthetic surgeons on duty, full bacta and alternative Cybertherapy services, it is easily the showcase of the complex. It is also evidence of the Vigil's long commitment to superior medical services as part of their relief and refugee resettlement programs.

Adjacent to the Hospital building is a fully equipped droid recovery and rehabilitation facility. Expanding on the commitment of the Vigil to pay for the emancipation of droids landing on Nigita, this facility serves to remove restraining bolts, re-skill older platforms, restore damaged memory cores, and provide continuing recharge and memory backup services. The Vigil, much to the dismay of their competitors and sovereign governments has established a firm stance towards synthetic liberation. They were full supporters of the rights of Synthetics on Nigita as the provisional government was established.

Public Landing Platforms (Terminals Besh & Cresh)

Currently serving as the primary full service starport for Nigita, the two terminals are capable of landing several dozen ships of varying sizes (see sidebar) up to and including Silhouette 7 in class, such as the older Carrack and Venator Republic Cruisers. Full berths, cargo storage, hyperdrive refueling, and workshop services are available for most classes of ships. Reliable organic and synthetic technicians fill the roles for nearly all desired ship services. While the Vigil itself does not sell any ship modifications, it is fully capable of having them installed when delivered.

Complaints have been made that the public facilities are often overridden in priority and landing clearance by Vigil flagged vessels. Additionally, many captains feel the ground clearance scans of vessels and clear weapons tracking policy of the facility is proving to be less flexible than the former main starport.

Vigil Military Complex (Terminal Dorn)

The last terminal facility is the most exclusive, admitting few civilians beyond the administrative lobbies for services. While primarily a relief effort, the Vigil prides itself on having one of the most capable escort teams for all their operations. Organic and synthetic mercenaries fly Vigil ships, man defenses, and provide ground support for nearly all Vigil services, acting as the militia of a small state or corporate security force. The vast majority of these forces on Nigita are the reconditioned Clone Wars era BX Class Droids. Recognizable from the gold stripe on the left arms and white chest armor, these are the most visible force deployed at the facility.

In addition, this terminal houses nearly all the Vigil's combat capable vessels, ranging from small corvettes, to assault shuttles and fighters. A single additional Hospital Ship, the VCS Hesperus also calls the terminal home. A converted luxury liner, it offers fifty additional beds that can be isolated to reduce pandemic risk. Of concern again, is the reliance on so many reconditioned ships from problematic sources. Even with white and gold replacing the star grey, the number of TIE fighters, including some late war rarities with exceptional firepower is still unnerving to many. They do not comprise the only fighters in service, visible rotations include X-Wings of various generations, and even venerable Y-Wings. (See sidebar.)

Doctrine and Law

Abstaining from participation in the government, the Vigil has negotiated itself the respect of Sovereign Soil from the Provisional Government. Effectively Wardenclyffe operates as a large embassy, enforcing the variation of Classic Republic Charter outlined in the Vigil Compact's guiding documents. This has some startling and significant incompatibilities with the currently established Nigita Constitution, particularly around capital crimes and punishment.

At this time no incidents have arisen from this discrepancy, but the potential is always there.

History

When the Galactice Empire first built the base that would become known as The Hub, it was built according to Imperial standards. This meant a large, hexagonal forticifation with defensive walls, turbolaser batteries, and four Pre-fabricated platforms (one in each cardinal direction) capable of being converted into functional starport facilities. While Nigita's occupation never intensified to need a second full starport (the primary one on the eastern side of the base IGTD.NG-213E was sufficient), the facility was at least framed out with physical superstructure and connection to the base power systems during the subsequent occupation by the First Order.

In Aurek of 35 ABY, once BoSS (Bureau of Ships and Services) finally opened logistical access to the planet, the Western Starport, with no fueling facility, cargo lifts, or repair facilities, was largely ignored. Providing little more than a platform to dock on and a roof to keep the pilots out of the rain, it sat underused, save by those wishing to avoid notice.

One such group was Vigil Medical Tour InnerRim.M83:Mathison consisting of a few droids, a veteran pilot and eminently qualified surgeon, Dr. Connor Mathison. However, as Nigita became a strategic location in the Vigil's efforts to combat bioterrorism in the Inner and Outer Rim sectors, the organization has invested heavily in the starport and converted it into a fully funtional starport to rival those on some core worlds.
