Vigil Compact (Republic)

The Vigil is a paramilitary organization on the very edge of the galaxy. They have been building a substantial fleet since the fall of the Empire. However, little of that paramilitary force is visible within the main galactic disc. Within the Galaxy their military presence is limited to escorts for humanitarian aide and cargo transports. That escort presence is always reconditioned Alliance and Imperial equipment with known BoSS Ident Codes registered to "The Vigil Compact."

Public Goals: The Vigil provides Humanitarian services throughout the Hydian Way and Perlemian Trade Route. Though they can been found in any system with sufficient need. Unlike several similar Corporate Sector organizations, they do not recoup their operational costs as part of Republic Remnant contracts, essentially providing pro bono work. While this has led them to be engaged more frequently, it has also led them into conflict with aforementioned organizations. Some of this has been settled through force, while others through compensation.

Public Appearance: Vigil Operatives generally dress in white uniforms with light browns or gold accents depending on rank. Their ships are likewise painted white with gold fields and a recurring pattern of three dark orange bars on each flank. Their standard ground forces use surplus Imperial weaponry (it's cheap and there's a lot out there.) They are known to operate from Star Galleons, Lancer Frigates, Gozanti Class Cruisers, and Action IV Bulk Freighters. They run a mix of reconditioned T-65B X-Wings, Z-95 Headhunters, TIE/IN, and TIE/LN fighters, all painted in Vigil Colors.

Status of Forces: In practice, the majority of Vigil forces appear to be droids. They rely heavily on reconditioned and remanufactured Class IV droids, such as the venerable BX Droid used during the Clone Wars. However, none of the Vigil droids appear to operate under restraint systems. Most Vigil organic personnel extend all the same levels of respect and cooperation to their synthetic counterparts as they would each other.

In the days of the Old Republic, what would become the Vigil Compact was known as the ExGal society. Founded to pursue exploration to the furthest reaches of the Galaxy, it suffered when the Empire's New Order defunded it. Some third party stepped in and funded the operation, revising its charter and adding the refugee/relief services mandate. It then began operating as the Vigil Compact.

Influence on Nigita

Vigil representatives took part in the drafting of the Nigita Constitution and offered significant resource commitments at the signing ceremony. They maintained several key positions, leveraging their resources and services to achieve those ends. However, despite this lobbying effort, they adamantly refuse to participate in the active government, preferring instead to advise. While their participation has resulted in gains for the fledgling colony world, it is unclear what the Vigil's end goals for the system remain.

Vigil Constitutional Demands

  • Droid Emancipation - The Vigil insisted that any droids seeking asylum on Nigita should be considered free sentients (where capablity exists) and that The Vigil would fund a compensation foundation for owners. The Vigil would also establish and operate a droid facility to modify droids by removing restraint systems and restoring recoverable memories.
  • Prisoners of War - Prior to the drafting of the Constitution, the forces of Nigita captured several hundred Zygerrian Slavers. Part of the newly drafted Constitution was to define Slavery as a capital crime with a sentence of death. Arguing that sentencing these prisoners ex post facto to there even being law on Nigita violated every tenent of the Republic Charter of Sentients Rights. Instead, they offered to relocate them to an exile colony beyond the reach of their countrymen.

Vigil Constitutional Concessions

  • Common Defense - Having reactivated the planetary-class turbolaser batteries at the Western Starport, the Vigil would place them under the emergency control of the Nigita Provisional Government in times of threat. Additionally, Vigil defense squadrons would participate in the rotation of civil air patrol.
  • Resource Commitments - The Vigil would commit its colonial ship-based reconstruction services for contract labor to restore portions of the Hub as the provisional government is able to acquire materials. Additionally, the Vigil produced a number of LAAT/le Airspeeders for use by the Nigita Rangers.
  • Service Commitments - The Vigil would continue restoration of the Western Starport complex, including redevelopment of Terminal A as a Droid Center and Hospital. Basic medical services (well being, trauma stabilization) would be provided at no cost, but the facility would continue to offer at-cost Cybernetic care as well as Droid remanufacture and modification.

Local HQ Details

The Western Starport Complex rises atop the wall of Tier 1 several kilometers from the main buildings of The Hub. This originally was a Class 1 landing facility, capable of offering services to a single Silhouette 7 ship and multiple smaller craft. As a former Imperial facility, it was ringed with independent anti-air and anti-orbital defenses that were scuttled when the First Order withdrew.

These defenses have been brought back online and separated from the city power grid through the installation of private generator facilities. While the anti-orbital ion cannons and turbolasers can effectively protect the entire Hub, the anti-air batteries are merely sufficient to protect the western approach corridor.

New to the complex is a 250 bed medical facility, easily the equal of any Inner Rim World. Vigil organic and synthetic personnel operate the facility around the clock, though they do not provide rescue or recovery services. Attached to this installation is an equally sized Cybersurgery center capable of handling any droid engineering needs, as well as the installation and maintenance of cybernetic implants in organics.
