BoSS (Bureau of Ships and Services)

The Bureau of Ships and Services (BoSS) is an extra-governmental galactic agency responsible for assigning unique transponder codes to starships and tracking their movements through space.
Since at least 18,000 BBY, BoSS was a non-governmental agency responsible for keeping the galaxy's records on starships and spacers. Additionally, it kept track of astrographical and navigational information and its data was essential to the traversing of hyperlanes and the functioning of ships' navicomputers.
Systems that didn't show up on the hyperlanes or navicomputers were exceedingly rare. This is why, when the Final Order and First Order fell and records of the hidden planet Nigita became unlocked, its sudden appearance on navicomps throughout the galaxy drew people from far and wide to discover its secrets.
