Trench of the Lost
The Trench of the Lost was discovered recently by the calamor wanderers. It is far behind the outskirts of the Calamor Empire. It is one of the trenches where the deep calamor does not live. It is surprising because the trench itself is huge and could easily provide food and living places for a sizeable number of calamor.
The trench walls are exceptionally smooth like it was polished for a long time. Usually, the calamor does not do such precise work because the salt and other minerals found in the water sooner or later will erode clean surfaces. Because of this, it must be a natural phenomenon, but the water should have eroded it a bit. Samples of the wall were sent to calamor scholars to study it and hopefully exploit its unique properties.
The fauna is the same as in other trenches, same fishes and corals at the top and stranger animals deeper down until the wanderers can dive. Unfortunately, because deep calamor does not live here, there is no further information on what lies further down and how deep the trench is.
The only strange thing the wanderers discovered – other than the smooth surface – was the quality of the water. It is not a dead zone, but still, it is harder to breathe in the trench. And although the water is not murky, it somehow has a darker quality than the water immediately outside the trench. Contrary to how different types of waters usually behave, the water in the trench feels lighter, and it should rise above the average ocean water, but for some unknown reason, it stays in the trench.
But the strangest thing in the trench is its name. The Trench of the Lost. The deep calamor gave the name of the trench. The wanderers learned it during a different expedition to another trench. They just casually mentioned it, and all the deep calamor became agitated. It looks like there is a myth among the deep calamor that one of their tribes, whom they refer to as the Golden tribe, lived there for a while, but they suddenly vanished, and since that time, none of the deep calamor tribes ventured there. Now because they cannot leave their own trenches, they cannot provide any help for the wanderers, and because the wanderers cannot dive to its depths, the secrets of the trench and the Golden tribe remain a mystery.
