The Unification War

The Unification War, also known as the Vishy Civil War, or the Balance War, is a series of conflicts by which the various religious city-states became unified under the Sacred Reich of Vishy.

The Conflict

Prelude

Before hand, what is now called Vishy were a collection of city-states, bound together loosely by a religious devotion to the Gods, of cities named after the various gods in reverence and pleas for protection after the affects of The Sundering.

Vilsera had attacked and ransacked the people of Veshae, who spread to the neighboring city-states. These Vishy began a coup in Aetern, alongside the dawn of a new religious movement, The Divine Balance. As the Vishy took over, they began a conflict, empowered by divine right, to spread this new faith, peacefully if possible, by force if necessary.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Inadvertently, the war resulted in the formation of another nation. The Defense of Riga would eventually lead to the creation of the D'arcan Mage Lords.

While the Unification War brought about a new religion, it also had it's hand in dispelling some others. An early cult in the region, The Sisterhood of the Six Sisters, was prominent in the city-states dedicated to those esteemed goddesses. As the Divine Balance would not permit any other faiths within it's territory, the dedicated sisters had to move further east. They would rebuild in Sylran, but would never materialize to the degree they once had, and are now thought to be extinct.

The Watch of the Eternal Flame had a similar problem. They were once the preeminent faith of Aetern, city dedicated to Mastro, God of the Sun and Justice. After the coup and the dawn of the Divine Balance, the militant faith had to find new headquarters elsewhere in the world. They would survive as a paramilitary organization throughout the world: tolerated, at times, by the nations they inhabited, but never again with the official backing of the state.
As a religious and militarized state, Vishy held a strange place in recent times with the Triumverate War. As a land comprised of large swaths of Orcs, it could not bring itself to war against Stoneheart and the other Orcish factions, but was able to stand fast against the incurring Dread Lords to the South East, now inhabiting the land deemed World's End.

In Literature

As one of the earliest wars in recorded history, much has been written about and analyzed in the Unification War, even outside of Vishy. Much has been made that the beginning of Vishy started from a movement comprised of diaspora of a pillaged city, and what that can mean about unintended consequences. It has also been used to teach discretion and magnanimity in wartime leaders in various parts of the world.
