D'arcan

The Mage Lords are not only the most widely respected experts in the various fields of magic, but sitting upon a national council, also sit as provincial rulers of the nation of D'arcan.

Structure

Each Lord is in charge of a province or county of the country. Concerns that affect all of D'arcan are agreed upon here, such as establishing national goals, declarations of war, and a national currency. How much of this is to be implemented is left up to the individual Lord or their underlings to devise. This fragmented perspective allows for experimentation, and often reduces the quelling of egos, but also leads to increased chaos and disunity downstream. Many citizens of D'arcan have their loyalty to their province and Lord first; almost viewing their province as its own sovereign state.

Culture

D'arcan is one of the most well educated nations in all of T'sara. This is not by mistake: The Lords have deliberately built a meritocratic society where those who prove themselves are given possibilities and opportunities commensurate with their capabilities. To do this, the Mage Lord Council found it necessary to provide education for all of its citizens. Those who excel in their work are granted additional study, including the ability to either study magic and become Wizards, or to support the magical studies in various ways.   As education is highly valued, it is all to the larger benefit of the study of magic. Having the greatest concentration of magically-apted minds and knowledge has proven to be the surest guaranteer of the nations security.

Assets

The decentralized state of D'arcan makes it difficult to determine much of its assets in terms of wealth or its soldiers. Being a landlocked nation in the center of the continent, transiting through the nation for trade is common, and so it is assumed that the Lords are sitting on large amounts of wealth. One of the larger rivers that lead out into the ocean begins in D'arcan, making it a valuable means of transit.   Each of the provinces have their own capital, with no National capital to speak of. While this contributes to the decentralized nature of the country and a questionable loyalty in the populace, it also provides for a large network of roads throughout the country. Teleportation Gates, for those priveleged to use them, are also available to take those between the cities instantly.
