Ilos, God of the Sun and Agriculture

Ilos, God of the Sun and Agriculture, is the first-born Aether God and is responsible for the movement of the sun across the sky. Ilos emerged from the right bicep of Enas the Creator.

Appearance and Personality

Ilos used to be a notorious practical joker, and his escapades upon the Material Plane during Utopia are the subject of many myths. Nowadays he and the other gods prefer not to meddle in the affairs of mortals, instead watching the world unfold from the heavens. Ilos has a strong sense of right and wrong, as well as a strong paternal instinct regarding his children, the Aasimar.   When Ilos takes mortal form, he chooses to present himself as a young male with Aasimar-like features. His preferred form stands 7 feet tall with heavy musculature and golden skin. His blonde hair is kept short and his eyes glow gold. If he takes the form of an animal, he often appears as a ginormous golden eagle.

His Creations

The Day/Night Cycle

Together with his twin brother Selin, Ilos stole the sun out of the sky on behalf of Vio. To create the cycle of day and night, Ilos and Selin throw the sun and moon across the Material Plane. At dawn, Ilos descends the Eastern Stairway with the sun tucked under his arm. He catches the moon as it reaches the eastern edge of the Material Plane and then throws the sun across the sky with all of his might. At dusk, Selin similarly catches the sun and tosses the moon across the sky. After they toss the sun and the moon, the brothers regroup in the Aether and exchange the celestial bodies.

Aasimar

Ilos created the Aasimar, a race of people who glow like the sun. He considers them to be his greatest treasure, and Ilos has interceded on their behalf a few times throughout history.

Religions that worship Ilos

Ilosian Theocracy

The largest and most powerful sect that worships Ilos, these self-styled protectors of the world are centered in the country of Ilos. The Ilosian Theocracy prides itself on its efficient bureaucracy and grand temples dedicated to the sun god. Legions of paladins and clerics collect tithes from the people of Ilos. In return, the theocracy runs highly efficient food kitchens for the poor. These funds also support crusades into the Underdark, where the Ilosian Theocracy believes it is their job to find their way into the Nether and bring peace to trapped souls. No crusade has been fully successful, but they do prevent the dangerous denizens of the Underdark from amassing too much power.

Pantheon of Bounty

A religion of the people, the Pantheon of Bounty has as many different beliefs as there are opinions on growing crops and rearing animals. This loose collection of beliefs centers around Ilos, Gin, God of Earth and Craft, Pano, God of Storms, and the celestial Kalli, the Gardener. Each region has its own festivals and beliefs that are centered around agricultural and pastoral life. Two common themes unite all followers of the Pantheon. First, the Harvest Festival is the most important religious celebration to these followers. Second, there are no clergy; all religious teachings are expounded by fellow farmers, fishers, and shepherds.
