It's one of the stupider acronyms out there: Squad Incorruptible Versus Injurious Consortiums. But that's only if that's the real meaning.Ah, SIVIC. Every universe with superpowers has something similar. A government organization tasked to deal with the superpowered individuals who came around, whether this meant helping the good ones stay safe or hunting down the bad ones. Or at least, that was how those sorts of groups like to present themselves. The Skill Integrity Valuation Intelligence Commission went through a dozen committees before the powers that be were finally satisfied that the name was "accurate while reflecting the intended meaning without being threatening to the populations they would intend to protect." I find it notable that this is the last point for several decades when SIVIC had any public oversight. People were aware they existed, of course, but in the same way any intelligence agency exists. Outside of public knowledge and with some suspicion but a general lack of anyone knowing the particulars of what they did. The organization became corrupted, as all such do. They were left without anyone to answer to, no one to be horrified as they slid further and further into a cruel way of treating the people they were meant to protect. I mean this for human and powered alike. Eventually one of their own realized that what they were meant to do didn't line up with what they actually did, and she effected a kind of coup, attempting to excise the fouler portions of the organization. This ultimately failed, and it will not be until the entirety of their actions, good and bad, are brought to light that they'll truly escape their shadows. I say this as someone who suffered because of their failures, and who has sworn to take them down.
