Zabokh

Zabokh is the largest of Subetia's four continents, located southwest of Orcli.  No permanent, Orclian settlements (or settlements by elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, or humans) have survived on the continent, which is known for its barren deserts, dangerous jungles, and mysterious disasters.  Expeditions from Orcli have sought to discover, explore, and extract Zabokhian resources, such as flora, fauna, stones, and gems.  Recent movements to colonize Zabokh have been stirring in anti-orc circles on Orcli.

Geography

Zabokh is divided into 6 regions, each characterized by different geographic features rather than topographical divisions, such as Orcli's 12 hwells which are divided by water.
  1. Fumorr, Subetian for "barren," also known as "The Barrens," is a desert region located in the north of the continent, closest to Orcli.  The northwest and central areas of this region are sand dunes stretching all the way to the coast, while the eastern coast and southern part of the region contains more of a variety of geographical features including shrubs, wadis, oases, cacti, boulders, cenotes, and salt lakes.
  2. Uhsse Hwell, Subetian for "False Island," is a peninsula that is narrowly connected to the continent by a narrow land bridge.  The name also reflects the deceptive nature of the island, which is populated by shrubs and palms, yet its settlements have all failed to survive, including the most notable example, Cappington, whose ruins still remain.
  3. Kohjuln, Subetian for "mangrove," is a region characterized by its mangrove forests which extend through the coast to the interior jungle and rainforest.  The dense, mangrove forests make docking impossible and passage incredibly difficult.
  4. Shinshokh, Subetian for "erosion," is a forest of dead trees and poor soil, causing landslides, slips, and collapses, making undocking and travel difficult through the area.  A variety of soils can be found in the region, and its eroded cliffs reveal the layers of different types of soils, some of which are sought-after and prized, despite being difficult to mine or extract due to the top layers of nutrient-poor soil collapsing over, mixing with, and ruining the sought-after soil.
  5. Tschae Sgurr, Subetian for "brown mountain range," also known as "The Brown Mountains," is a rocky and mountainous region located at the southern part of Zabokh's main continent.  Canyons, valleys, rivers, lakes, and mesas characterize the different areas of this region, whose mountains cause southern winds to accumulate clouds overhead, who release their rain for the rainforest to the north, emptying before reaching the northern desert.
  6. Tell Hwell, Subetian for "Temple Island," is a peninsula narrowly connected to the main continent, and is characterized by its rocky highlands, coastal winds, lakes and springs, and volcanic activity.  Temple ruins appear on the island, whose origins are themselves unknown, although many different theories and beliefs abound, each offering different and conflicting information.

Ecosystem Cycles

Winds from the southwest of Zabokh bring clouds to the continent, which accumulate over the southern mountains before dropping over the rainforests of the center of the continent, leaving the northeast region dry and without rain.  The winds prevent the southern mountains from growing much vegetation, and the overabundant rains influence the rainforests' flora, fauna, and soil, while keeping the desert region particularly dry.
