The Sighing Spectors
The Sighing Spectors, formerly the Moonlit Grove Inn, is named for the three ghosts that allegedly haunt the new-dead grove behind the building. It is run by Auntie Levoux, a green hag who presents herself as a kindly old grandmotherly figure. Her food is excellent, and she offers a bet to new customers: one copper will get you access to the Dead Grove. Come back and tell her what you see and she will give you a silver. Tell her interesting information and she will give you a gold.
The building itself was once both an Inn and a private residence. The first owner vanished under mysterious circumstances, and the building was taken over by Muxagor Grenshel, then by Auntie Levoux.
The rooms, should anyone choose to stay there, are comfortable to wealthy lifestyle. Most people don't stay more than two or three days due to the general creepiness of the area and the occasional weeping of the ghosts in the Dead Grove. The ghosts are friendly-ish, but will attack and try to possess anyone who tries to drive them off or destroy them.
Purpose / Function
Tavern, Inn, haunted tourist attraction.
Formerly: Private residence, evil lair/experimentation chamber.
Alterations
The Dead Grove used to be the Moonlit Grove until Muxagor took it over, used the basement as a place of horrible experimentation, and dumped several bodies of his victims in the Grove.
The basement, formerly servants quarters and storage, is now the site of a torture chamber where Muxagor performed his experiments on three students a hundred years ago.
History
The Moonlit Grove Inn was previously a family manor of one of the founders of the town. It was given to the town by the youngest son of the family after the rest of his family died. It became an Inn as the town grew and the school got more students and families visiting. The previous owner was (probably) killed my Muxagor a hundred and fifty or so years ago. He turned in into his lair and prison for his test subjects until Auntie Levoux drove him out and turned it into the Sighing Spectors.
Tourism
Only the very brave, very curious, or very stupid venture here, as it is known to be haunted.
The presence of the ghosts, along with their despair and pain, have caused the formerly thriving moonlit grove to die and decay.
